I still remember having this Hainan chicken rice back when they were operating from their old location at Kek Seng Kopitiam. Since then, they have moved into their own shoplot just few shops away along the same street Penang Road, and grown into the Tong Seng Chicken Rice brand, with several outlets around Penang.
I have tried some of their other outlets over the years, but somehow, I still find myself coming back to the original shop at Penang Road as their chicken rice taste better than the rest of their chains.

My usual order is one of their signature Roasted 3 Mixed Rice , which lets me enjoy three roasted favourites on one plate, which are roasted chicken, roasted pork and char siew. Add a braised egg on the side, and you have got a satisfying plate of old-school chicken rice goodness.
I usually ask for extra BBQ sauce. The combination of savoury roasted meats, fragrant rice, sweet savoury sauce with the spicy kick from their chili sauce, makes all the great taste in one comfort meals.
I also orderd a bowl of their Chai Boey soup. It had the comforting old school taste, with balance of tangy and spiciness that I look for in a good chai boey. A warm bowl of this chai boey alongside the roasted meats made the meal feel extra comforting.
We also gave the char siew noodle a try. The char siew itself did not disappoint, nicely caremalized and roasted. However I found the noodles a little underwhelming compared to the other dishes I had.
Overall, Tong Seng remains one of my favourite places to head to whenever I am craving chicken rice.
