Our second day in Tokyo was another free and easy one. This time, we headed to Odaiba, a man-made island famous for its shopping, attraction, and entertainment. The highlight of the day was something special for the kids, Tokyo No Kaba, an amphibious bus ride that goes from land to sea!
Odaiba Marine Park
We started with a stroll at Odaiba Marine Park , which offers beautiful views of the Tokyo Bay, the rainbow bridge and a replica of Statue of Liberty. It is a lovely spot for a relaxing walk, popular with families and people walking their pets.
Whether in the day or at night, the scenery is stunning. Perfect for unwinding before or after diving into the busier parts of Odaiba.
Lunch at Pomme-no-ki
It seem like Pomme-no-ki is speciallize in omurice and we could not miss trying the Japanese omelette rice when in Japan.
The menu was overhwelming with so many variations, so we ended up trying one with curry sauce and another with cream sauce, while the kids happily enjoyed the kid's meal. The portions were enormous and filling. While it was not the best omurice we have ever tried,, it was hearty and satisfying enough to fuel us for the afternoon.
Family Activitiy in Odaiba: Tokyo No Kaba Amphibious Bus
The main reason we came to Odaiba was for Tokyo No Kaba, the amphibious bus named after a hippopotamus since it lives both on land and in water.
We purchased our tickets at the Aqua City Odaiba Kaba counter and hopped on board. The ride started like a normal bus tour, showing us a bit of Odaiba, then the real excitement came when the bus plunged into the sea with a huge splash!
From there, it crused through Tokyo Bay, passing under the Rainbow Bridge and giving us unique views of the city skyline and the iconic Fuji TV headquarters. The journey lasted about 35 minutes. It was fun, exciting and memorable for both kids and adults.
Shopping and Dinner in Odaiba: DiverCity Tokyo Plaza
After the bus tour, we explored DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, where we discovered PetPlus, a massive pet shop filled with adorable puppies and endless pet supplies. Needless to say, the kids could not get enough of their cuteness!
The mall itself is full of quirky and cute stores, and when it was time for dinner, we headed to the food court. With its wide variety of affordable Japanese food, we know it is perfect for families. We had teppanyaki, takoyaki, and the highlight-Edomae Tendon from Kanekohannosuke, a hearty rice bowl topped with giant assorted seafood tempura.
Parent Tip: The food court has a kid's dining area with smaller tables and chairs designed for children, plus free-flow water stations. Its super convenient for dining with little ones.
Life-sized Unicorn Gundam
A trip to DiverCity would not complete without seeing the life-sized Unicorn Gundam outside the plaza.
Standing tall and glowing at night with its sound and light effects, it is an awesome sight for both fans and casual visitors. Next to it was a rainbow-lit staircase, which became an instant playground for our kids. They ran up and down endlessly, giggling wiht excitement.
It was the perfect way to end our Odaiba adventure.
Day 2 gave us a mix of sightseeing, food and family fun. If you are traveling to Tokyo with kids, Odaiba is a must-visit for unique attractions and unforgettable experiences.
We are exciting for our next day itenary - Day 3 a tour to Mount Fuji, Day 4 to Tokyo Disneyland
Don't miss our Day 1 adventure to Asakusa and Shibuya with kids.
