Travel Hacks that will make you More Confident When Travelling Solo

Do you want to feel more confident when travelling solo? Maybe you just never feel as though you are seeing each country to its full potential, and you want to do something about this. Either way, there are things that you can do to try and make sure that you make the most out of your experience.

Research

It is so important that you take as much time to research as you can. Find out the best places to go and also learn the top destinations for solo travellers too. If you can do this, then you will soon find that you feel less alone, as you will be surrounded by people who are also there to travel solo. If you can get some advice from people who have travelled solo before, then this will help you out a great deal too, so keep that in mind. If you don’t know where to start, then simply try and look at forums, and engage with people on social media.

Download an App

A lot of cities now have full apps available for local transport. If you can download these apps and have a little play around with them, then you may find that it is easier than ever for you to find your way around. If you do this, then you will soon find that you have an easy way to find your way around and you can also see how places connect with one another too. if you get lost or if you feel as though language is an issue, then you have nothing to worry about either as you can simply point to the destination on your phone and they will be able to advise you.

Learn Top Five Phrases

You can usually get by in any language if you take the time to learn five key phrases. These happen to include excuse me, thank you, please, goodbye and hello. It is very easy for you to start or finish a conversation this way, and you can also request help politely. Even if you happen to mispronounce something, it shows that you have made the effort to try and use the local language and this is something that a lot of locals will grow to appreciate. You can rely on apps to translate what you want to say out loud but if you do things the old-fashioned way, then you may come across as being more friendly and you will also be welcomed more. This is especially the case where the tech isn’t as advanced.
I recalled when I went to Central Europe in 2019 and I made scribbles on how to say these basic words in Hungarian, Slovak, Slovene, Czech and German. It wass not as tounting as it seems and it only took me few nights to remember these basic words.

Make Friends

We befriended our host in Taiwan and they sent us some gift in the morning!

Being friendly with the concierge is always a good thing. If you tell them you want something local that is truly free from tourists, then they will be able to advise you on that, and they can send you to wherever you want to go. It does help to be very clear about what you want though. If you can, you need to introduce yourself to the front desk as these people are usually very well connected to the local community. They may even be friendly with café owners and even restaurant owners too. Let them know why you are choosing to visit the location and also share something positive about the city or even the country. Locals tend to love to share what their country has to offer, whether it is traditional BBQ or whether it is a hole-in-the-wall spot.

Take Care of Yourself

Taking care of yourself is super important when you are out travelling. If you do not take the time to look after yourself, then you may find that you become burnt out and this is the last thing that you want. It is a good idea to take some skincare products with you, or even some foundation makeup. If you can do this, then you may find that you have the ability to look good wherever you go, and this can be a real boost to your confidence. Take some earplugs if you know you may be sleeping next to a busy street, and also take the time to meet your basic needs. If you can do this, then you will soon find that it is easier for you to focus on yourself and your needs.

Give Yourself a Project

Divert all of the nerves you have and focus on something much more productive if you can. Try and make a plan to blog about all of your experiences and share your photos on your Instagram. The great thing about doing this is that it gives you the drive to find somewhere to take photos and you may also find that it clears your mind of all the things that you are unable to control.

Take a Tour

We took a cooking class in Bangkok and had so much fun!

Taking a tour is a great way for you to try and beat those feelings of isolation. You could try and take a cooking class if you want as this will help you to learn the local cuisine and how things come together. You may also find that you can connect with new people who may be travelling in the same area. Food always has a way of bringing people together, so it is wise for you to try and explore this if you can.

Post your Plans

Sure, you probably do not want to be sharing every plan that you have online, but posting about your trip does come with its benefits. You may find that you can learn from people who have already been there, and you may also find that you can uncover some hidden gems too. You have to remember that we live in a big, amazing world and if you get the chance, you should try and see it all. If you can boost your travel confidence a bit by talking to others and by staying connected, then this will really help you and it will also aid you in becoming much more driven when it comes to your future adventures.
