Sungai Lalang Signature Food - Paper Wrapped Noodles 纸包面 @ 琼东茶室 Keng Tong Cafe, Sungai Petani

Sungai Lalang, a small town in the northern Sungai Petani of Kedah is the birthplace of a dish - Paper Wrapped Noodles (纸包面). As the dish name suggests, the dish features noodles wrapped in paper, and served along with some barbecued pork. Even if you are dining in the kopitiam, the noodles will still be served to you wrapped in paper. To give you a better idea, Paper Wrapped Noodles are akin to wantan mee, minus the dark soy sauce and wantan but served in sweet sauce instead.

There are people origin from Padang Lalang shared with us that 琼东茶室 Keng Tong Cafe in Sungai Lalang Town is the creator of Paper Wrapped Noodles. Indeed, the Paper Wrapped Noodles here did not disappoint. Noodles are al-dente, and it is nicely doused with sweet sauce rendering a pleasant taste. Personally, I enjoyed the noodles texture and wrapping it with paper is a great idea to increase the gravy absorption.

On the other hand, ingredients were scarce in the noodles with only a few pieces only barbecued pork but it was more than enough as breakfast for a mere RM 3.50.
