Fancy some authentic Hong Kong food in Penang? Then this newly open HK Boy Cart Noodle 香港仔车仔面 at The One, Bayan Lepas is set to satisfy your cravings. They serve signatures Hong Kong dishes such as offal noodles (车仔面), egg waffles, frozen milk tea, baked rice and many more. HK Boy Cart Noodle has been operating several outlets in Klang Valley and we were thrilled to see their extension to Penang!
As expected, this newly minted restaurant has cause a havoc among Penangites. People were piling up and you might expect to queue up during peak hours. As we were first timers to the restaurant, the lady who seemed to be the person in charge took some time to explain how to make the orders using the order sheet. Service was swift too - quick serving speed, fast table cleaning. Everything is just like Hong Kong but expect a 10% service charge though.
No doubt the core here is their HK Boy Cart Noodle. Pick 2 or 3 types of ingredients for RM 10.90 and RM 12.90 respectively, and beef would have cost additional RM 3. You may customize your soup base and noodles types to yield a different taste portfolio too, though some choices might incur additional surcharge. Personally, we liked the overall taste of the noodle with a mixture of soup base (beef tendon sauce, curry sauce and braised sauce). It creates a semi-rich taste yet not surfeiting. Nevertheless, we did not now how to appreciate the doggie noodles.
Pork Chop & Satay Pork Rice (RM 13.90) is a great choice too. The combination of the cheese, tomato sauce, pork chop and satay pork worked nice and value for money. Portion is huge too, and hungry men will find this dish cater well for their stomach.
We supposed Hong Kong is famous for their egg waffles and curry fishball so we gave these two a try. Though the fishball is smaller in size for the Curry Fishballs (RM 3.90) but it was great in texture and the curry has subtle pleasant taste. Meanwhile, the Egg Waffles (RM 6.90) did not disappoint, though there are other stalls in Penang offer greater egg waffles
Frozen Ice Tea (RM 4.90) here is impressive as it was not sweet for our liking, and it packs a nice scent of the tea.
Most important, the restaurant did try to mimic a typical Hong Kong restaurant but they made it spacious for comfort purposes!
