Original Cake 源味本鋪 @ Queensbay Mall, Penang

We think this Taiwan "Original Cake" (源味本铺) does not need much introduction after all the hypes over social media. Dozens of social media influencers have been taking part in promoting this Danshui original delicacy, prompting us to get one as well.

The truth is, we were too lazy to join the long queue to get it. I called this as negative reverse social media advertising, as I never got over excited on something over promoted. Too much hassle to join the party.

Thus we waited for about 2 weeks I reckon after the opening of Penang Queensbay branch. We popped by the stall, which located just before the level 3 Queens Hall food court to have a look on a Friday evening. Surprisingly, there was no queue and we can purchase them right away!

Indeed, the aroma is promising. Upon carrying the 2 boxes of sponge cakes into our car, the entire car was scented with the buttery taste. Saliva were drooling unintentionally.

Taste wise, the sponges cake did taste denser, and cheesy sensation can be tasted provided you bite into the cheese layer. Chocolate sponges cakes were nothing spectacular actually, it was just a sponge cake with some mild chocolate taste derived from the added cocoa powder.

Overall, the cheesecakes serve well for some snacking choices but to queue half an hour for it is unnecessary. Just wait for the moments when the crowd is dispersed to get your cakes from the shop.

    1. Hi Awang, it is around RM 20 when we have it last year. Not sure about now.

Their facebook post indicates they are halal certified. Nevertheless do look out for their halal certificate if in doubt.
