Hock Seng Rojak stall at Macallum has been in the neighborhood for 40 years at least, the business and recipe has been passed down to second generation now. Their signature sticky paste and handful of toppings has makes them distinctive from the rest. Long queue certainly start around 3 to 4 pm. Lucky us went around 2 pm where we do not have to wait at all. You may enjoy their rojak at Sin Hong Leong coffee shop or be just like us, sit at their provided chairs prepared behind their store.
Their rojak available in 3 sizes which are small (RM 7), medium (RM 10) and large (RM14). A bowlful of fruits and keropok topped with rojak paste, sprinkled with peanut and dry shrimp. Their signature rojak paste was surprisingly sticky, a little sweet without the present of the unwelcome shrimp scent. The addition of toasted peanut has heighten the taste more. I was not sure the present of dry shrimp helps or not, but it does not add any contradiction to the whole dish. Price wise is a little hurtful for the wallet but they are undeniably palatable.
The take away rojak was prepared in separated packaging for fruits and the sauce.
Updated Julu 18th, 2017, they have relocated as shown in picture above. Photo credit to Hock Seng |
