A spontaneous stroll along China Street led us to one of our most delightful discoveries, Choux Choux. What immediately caught our attention was its connection to Two Frenchies Cafe Bistro, a name well-loved among Penang food enthusiasts for serving authentic French cuisine for years. While Two Frenchies is known for its classic French offerings, Choux Choux takes a slightly different approach with a menu inspired by Mediterranean flavours.
Stepping into the restaurant, we were instantly drawn by its warm and inviting atmosphere. The bright window display showcasing freshly baked croissants, brioche and an assortment of artisanal breads was hard to miss. As we explored further, the pastry counter quickly stole our attention, and our sweet tooth took over.
Naturally, we couldn't leave without trying their signature choux pastries. After all, it would feel almost wrong not to sample the very item that inspired the restaurant's name. Interestingly, "Choux Choux" is a French term that translates to "sweetheart".
We picked up four different flavours from the selection of choux pastries alongside a beautifully crafted chocolate tart. Choosing what to order wasn't easy, as the pastry display was filled with delicate French creations that looked almost too pretty to eat. While we felt there is still room for refinement in some of the pastries, they were nontheless enjoyable and comfortably above average in terms of flavour and presentation.
Having already indulged in a hearty meal earlier, we were too full to explore their savoury menu this visit. Judging by the pedigree behind the brand, we have a feeling their main dishes may be where they truly shine. That simply gives us another reason to return and discover more on our next visit.
