Gurney Paragon Mall Welcomes Hari Raya with “Raya Bersulam Batik” Celebration

Gurney Paragon Mall by Hunza Group ushers in Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 with the launch of its festive celebration themed “Raya Bersulam Batik”. Inspired by intricate craftsmanship of traditional batik woven with contemporary design, the theme celebrates Malaysia’s cultural heritage through immersive artistic expressions.

The grand décor launch was graced by YB Lim Siew Khim, Penang State Executive Councillor for Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Affairs, and Mr Abdul Hadi Che Man, Director of Tourism Malaysia (Northern Region). Also present were Dato' Seri Khor Teng Tong, Hunza Group Founder & Executive Advisor, Ms Khor Tze Ming, Hunza Group Executive Director and Ms Koay Bee Fong, Chief Operating Officer of Gurney Paragon Mall.

The mall’s atrium has been transformed into a vibrant festive showcase where intricate batik motifs intertwine with modern architectural elements, symbolising artistry, unity and the timeless elegance of Malaysian heritage. At the centre stands a luminous crescent moon set on a star-inspired platform adorned with colourful batik patterns, representing faith, harmony and celebration.

Surrounding the centrepiece are minaret-inspired pillars with golden accents and warm lantern lights, creating an atmosphere of serenity and grandeur. A charming kampung-inspired pavilion with cascading drapes and glowing lanterns invites visitors into a nostalgic setting reminiscent of traditional Raya gatherings, while vibrant floral arrangements symbolise renewal, gratitude and joyous reunions.

In her speech, Khor Tze Ming highlighted Malaysia’s unique multicultural spirit where communities celebrate each other’s traditions and heritage without boundaries.

She also expressed appreciation to the Penang State Government and Tourism Malaysia for their continued support in positioning Penang as a vibrant cultural and lifestyle destination, especially as the country prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

“This year’s theme, “Raya Bersulam Batik,” celebrates one of Malaysia’s most treasured cultural art forms. Batik represents creativity, heritage and craftsmanship, with each motif telling a unique story. Through this theme, we hope to honour the richness of Malaysian traditions while creating a festive and welcoming environment for everyone visiting the mall,” Khor said.

In his address, Abdul Hadi Che Man commended Gurney Paragon Mall for curating a meaningful Hari Raya celebration that blends traditional Malay arts, festive musical performances and contemporary showcases.

“Festive initiatives like ‘Raya Bersulam Batik’ contribute greatly to the tourism experience by creating welcoming and culturally immersive environments where visitors can enjoy the warmth of Malaysian celebrations,” he said.

YB Lim emphasized the importance of inclusive welfare initiatives and community partnerships in ensuring that every member of society is supported.

“Through various welfare initiatives and community partnerships, we strive to ensure that no one is left behind and that every individual has the opportunity to live with dignity and hope. In fact, the state government has begun the payment of i-Sejahtera Phase 1/2026 in stages last month. This shows the Penang State Government’s continuous commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its people, particularly the vulnerable groups,” she said.
