We stumpled upon Lok Kee by chance, drawn in by its char chan teng (茶餐厅) vibes and menu. Curious to see if it lived up to the reviews we saw online, therefore we decided to give it a try.
The menu was impressively extensive, featuring local Malaysian favourites, Hong Kong-style dishes and few rare finds like fried laksa, Guang Chiang and Teochew chai kuih. It felt like a good spot for casual meals or quick bites, especially for those working nearby. While the flavours did not quite blow us away, the pricing was reasonable, making it a potential go-to place for convenient lunches or small group gatherings. If you are seeking a gastronomy adventure, this might not be your ideal destination.

We took quite some time just deciding on our mains and sides, eventually went with their signature Lok Kee Char Laksa. Unfortunately, it feel flat. The noodles were overcooked and soaked in a thick laksa sauce that resembled laksa been left there on the table for too long that the soup dried up a little. While the prawns were a pleasant touch, we felt a classic version might be just nice.
The Nasi Lemak was more on visually appealing, served with vibrant blue rice that topped with beautiful fried egg. However, the sambal lacked of punch, and the lemongrass chicken was dry and missing the aromatic flair we were hoping for.

We got a little carried away when exploring the menu so we added a few snacks. The Egg on Toast, a local breakfast staple that we usually enjoy any time of day, was underwhelming. We love the half boiled eggs, nicely done but just that the bread was soggy, lacking the expected toasted crispness, and the butter carried an odd taste. The Portuguese Tart and Egg Tart were decent.
Our anticipation for the Guang Chiang was met with disappointment. It was dry, both the seasoning and yam peanut filling could use some refinement to bring out the flavours better.

We wrapped up our meal with some desserts.The Burnt Tauhua with brown sugar seem like an interesting creation, its like tauhua served crème brûlée-style with brown sugar, milk and crushed peanuts for a DIY dessert experience. Unfortunately, the cramelized sugar crust was hard to crack and did not quite blend well with the silky tauhua underneath. We ended up biting into a thick shard of sugar that gave us a shocking sugar rush. Thankfully, the classic Black Glutinous Rice was a comforting end to the meal. Warm, familiar kochabi and satisfying. It probably our favourite of the day.
