If you are on the hunt for a cozy, minimalist cafe in Penang that serves great pastries and coffee, The Maker Cafe would be a nice choice. This space has been around for some years and ticks all the right boxes for anyone seeking for a peaceful spot to unwind, get some work done or enjoying a laid back afternoon with friends.
Form the moment we stepped in, the warm wooden tones and lush greenery space attracted us so much. The tables are thoughtfully spaced, making it an ideal environment to bring your laptop or simply relax without feeling cramped. A few sunroof spots allow natural light to pour in, making it feel as if we were taking a break in nature but with the comfort of air conditioning.
Though we had just finished lunch, the pastries on display were too tempting to ignore. We went for the Pain Au Choc, and it did not disappoint. Beautifully flaky with a buttery aroma, thanks to their use of Elle & Vire butter, and perfectly balanced with a touch of rich chocolate. We also tried the Burnt Cheesecake, which was incredibly creamy with lovely caramelized top. Paired it all with their smooth and well brewed coffee made the perfect afternoon for us.
While The Maker cafe doesn't serve main dishes, but the wide selection of freshly baked pastries is more than enough to satisfy your cravings or sweet tooth. Whether one are escaping from the Penang heat or just looking for next favourite coffee spot, this cafe do worth a visit. We were there with the kids and its pretty kids friendly too.
