Arun Sawat Thai Cafe is a relatively new addition to the food scene in Tanjung Tokong area, located within walking distance from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology. The cafe exudes a homey charm with its simple setup, making it a cosy spot for a quite lunch or casual dinner. Fully air-conditioned and offering a meny that is easy on the wallet. It is a great option especially for students in the area.

Although the food takes a little time to arrive and our guess was it was prepared fresh in their home-style kitchen. The wait ia made pleasant by the warm hospitality as the lady running this family-owned business is friendly and great with kids.

If you are dropping by in the evening, the outdoor seating area with camping-style tables offers a lovely spot to chill with friends if the weather is on your side. It is a perfect setting to order a hotpot to be shared, and enjoy a relaxed evening under the stars, chatting away.

White Tomyam with Chicken

Pattaya Fried Rice RM 9.90

Browsing through the menu was a noistalgic moment for us, it brought back memories from our university days when we have to carefully budgeted our meals. The prices here are student friendly, with dishes starting as low as RM 9.90. Between Mama Noodles and Pattaya Fried Rice, we opted for the latter one, a classy comfort dish from our student days. The fried rice came with a smiley face drawn using chili sauce on the egg, it brought a big smile to our faces. Nothing fancy for the rice, lightly seasoned with lovely eggy aroma in the comforting way.

A isit to a Thai eatery would not be complete without some Tomyam, so we opted for the White Tomyam with Chicken. Served piping hot in a claypot thus the soup stayed warm throught the meal. It came with generous amount of chicken and mushroom for RM 20+. The broth had a bold sour and spicy kick, fragrant with lemongrass and coriander. A flavourful and hearty pot that is great for sharing.

Mango Sticky Rice RM 11.90

Cha Keaw Yen/ Thai Green Tea RM 5.90

We wrapped up our meal with Mango Sticky Rice. The mange was sweet and juicy, the rice could have been a little softer but the coconut milk is rich. The Thai Green Tea on the other hand was rich, fragrant and absolutely refreshing in the sweltering Penang heat.
