Firewood restaurant has gained a momentum over social media and among foodies in local community since its inception in end 2022. The restaurant is famed for having an open flame kitchen concept, and the executive chef here appeared to have work with Gordon Ramsey during his stint in Singapore.

The restaurant mainly serves a variety of Western dishes, and they take pride of having limited selections of steak cuts on daily basis. Reservation is recommended but it appears the crowd have subdued of late, hence it is still likely of getting a table during off peak period.

Although Firewood appears to be a fine dine restaurant, they are practising a casual dining style. You can go in with any form of attire, and children is more than welcome. We brought our young toddler and infant along, and the crews did offer exceptional services to us. They arranged the kids cutleries the exact same way how they arrange our cutleries too, and making the kids feel their presence acknowledged.

If you were like to order steaks, the crew will bring a board portraying the cuts available on the day and detailing on what is available.

We ordered an Angus Sirloin and requested it to be made medium rare and serve with Chimichurri sauce (RM 65/100g, total 320g). The doneness of the steak was perfect, which was done to perfect medium rare as we asked. Its taste is rich and robust, while the piece of protein is juciy in the centre. In my opinion, the chimichurri was not necessary as the salt alone were good enough to unleaseh the potential of the steak. Dipping into the chimichurri somehow supress the original flavour of the steak and render it less attractive.

Do exercise cautious with the quantity of salt too as too much of the salt will kill the steak flavour too.

Another piece of protein that were recommended by the crew to us is Barramundi (RM 49), which we felt is a masterpiece. The flesh is smooth and sleek, while the taste is very light and goes well with the sauce. Drizzle of lemon juices provided an extra depth to the fish.

The other main dish that we had for the night, Chicken Bao (RM 42), offered us a mixed experience. We were told by the crew that the dish is unique in the sense that it uses fried mantou instead of conventional burger breads to sandwich the chicken patty. Indeed it offers a glimpse of refreshing flavour at first, but even before finishing half of the "bao" we started to feel surfeit.

Perhaps it was due to the bao has undergo frying process and releases more greases as time goes by. The burger somehow made us leave a bad greasy feeling lingering in our mouthand worst we had it as last of the meal.

Meanwhile, the chicken patty deserves credit as it was nicely done with juicy patty, and the side dishes fries were great.

As for dessert, we had a Tiramisu (RM 29) but the taste was mediocre. There was overhelming amount of cocoa powder topping the cake and resulted us choked a few times. While we appreciate the pleasant alcohol flavour, the piece of cake was too humongous in size for 2 of us to finish. A smaller piece would be more enjoyable.

As for drinks, we had a Chocolate (RM 16) and a White (RM 15).

All in all, Firewood is a rather place to comes to enjoy a decent steak. The other dishes here also showcased the talents and creativity of the chefs, clearly differentiating it from conventional cafes and restaurants. Quality is demonstrated among the dishes, but overall bill could be hefty for some if you were to enjoy a good dinner that comprises of steaks, wines, some greens and salads, so perhaps it was meant more for celebrative or special occasions.
