Sunday in Royale Chulan Penang gets exceptionally interesting and happening with their newly launched Pao Pei Dimsum Buffet lunch. This is the first times the hotel launched this interesting buffet concept, where you get to order unlimited choices of a la carte dim sums (of course, please do not waste food), and have access to usual buffet counter.
Pao Pei Dimsum Buffet is competitively priced at RM 78+ per adult and RM 58+ per child or senior citizen. Kindly take note this buffet is only available on Sunday lunch.

When I walked into the restaurant without knowing much details of the buffet, I was impressed at the array of pau akan buns displayed. The colourful pau comprises of assortment of steamed and deep-fried colorful pau and mantou, and you can even have the premium Cantonese Gua Bao which is served with roasted lamb leg with steamed lotus leaf bun, green coral and hoisin sauce.
As for the dim sum a la carte selections, you can tick your preferred choices on the menu that offers up to 30 selections of dim sums that included braised egg, braised chicken wingsor duck, fried Chinese burger, egg tarts, Gyoza, prawn dumplings, raddish cakes and more.
Steamed dim sum choices also offered, including black pepper siew mai, har kaw, Loh Mai Kai, Ma Lai Gao, salted egg buns, Teochew Mai, Tomyam Siew Mai, Thai Siew Mai and more. Watch out of the spiciness from the Tomyam Siew Mai!
Pao Pei Dim Sum also offers a few options of main course where you can get from the buffet counter. Among the choices included Yong Chow Fried Rice with Chicken Char Siew & Shrimp, Hoong Tu Mee with Seafood, Calamari Rings, Chicken Kaarage, Fish Cocktails and Sensational Plant Based Stir Fried Mince with Bulgogi Sauce.
Then the buffet also offers some local flairs which is beyond the name dim sum can justfy, such as appetizers choice of hot & cold combination platter, Pasembur, Pie Tee, Sengkuang Calit and others.
There are also piping hot soup such as Chic Kut Teh and Nyonya Kiam Chai Ark.
For those who are after the exotic flavours, you can feast yourself in the unlimited chicken feets here!
Instead of the usual stir-fry corner, this round you can have either Dry or Soup Wantan Noodles. This Wantan Mee is susprisingly good and has great flavour, outclasses some of the wantan mee out there.
Last but not least, there is a fair selections of desserts and fruits.
Overall, we thought Pao Pei Dim Sum Buffet is worth the value you pay for.
