Vietnamese Food Workshop by An Viet

We have been frequenting An Viet for its delicious and authentic Vietnamese cuisine for some time. However we are coming to An Viet this round for another purpose other than enjoying its delicious food - to learn the elementals of Viet food. We are fortunate to have the social media couple - Peanut Couple, whose wife is an origin Vietnamese to share us some insights on preparing a few popular Viet cuisine such as Sugar Cane Prawn and Banh Mi.

Thanks to Peanut Couple for extending the invitation

The workshop started with Sugar Cane Prawn preparation, which is made of 100% Tiger Prawns, one of the key success factor in great sugar crane prawns. The prawn paste is then carefully rolled on the sugar cane stick, before proceed to deep fried to give it the crunchy texture.

Next we had the opportunity to make the famous Viet dish - Banh Mi.

The process started with spreading pate - pork liver spread with seasoning over the baguette, followed by mayonnaise. Then add on coral leaves, pickles, cucumbers, ended with the protein and some chilli to make it flavourful. Banh Mi is easy to make, and is an excellent source of combined nutrients of carbohydrates, proteins, fibers and nice in flavour.

An Viet also serves a range of great Vietnamese dishes and we have found a new love here - Hanoian style grilled pork with vermicelli. The flavourful pork in served in a sweet broth, which is eaten by dipping the vermicelli in the broth. Such way of eating wet the vermicelli to a certain degree, but not to the extent of over soggy as a result of dipping too long in the broth.

Then the flavourful grilled pork became a perfect combination to the dish.

Of course, the pho here is never disappointing. You can have raw beef, beef balls or beef tripes to go along with the pho.
