Some enjoyed having a glass of nice cocktails made by a seasonal bartender, and it is more satisfying when we were taught a few insider tips on how to make an almost perfect cocktails. It was made possible when a few novices to cocktails like me and some cocktail enthusiasts attended a cocktail-making workshop hosted by celebrated Malaysian bartender Shawn Chong in Farquhar's Bar at Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang on 20th May 2023.

During the workshop, Shawn demonstrated the creation of three unique cocktails: The Gin & Tonic, Earl Grey Gimlet and the rum-based El-Presidente. All three cocktails featured Angostura rums and Portebello Road Gin, two premium spirits known for their quality and versatality.
He also shared us some simple yet crucial tips on how to perfect the cocktails, including clever usage of the ice, glasses and spirits ratio. At the same time, he also shared his high regard for Angostura's rums and Portebello Road Gin.
Shawn is a three-time Diageo World Class Malaysia Champion, and firs trose to preminence after opening his first bar, Omakase + Appreciate in 2013 which ranked No. 10 in the Asia's 50 Best Bars list in 2016. Currently, he is the head bartender and owner of Bar Mizukami Collective.
The presence of Shawn in Farquhar's Bar also excited the patrons to Farquhar's Bar as he stayed as guest bartender on the same night and serve his siganture cocktails using Angostura rums nad Portebello Road Gin.
