Chorus by The Quay @ Straits Quay, Penang

An unpleasant dinner and subpar food could possibly ruin the entire day filled with good mood.

Unfortuantely, that was our experience when we went to a restaurant in Straits Quay lately. A few of the food was subpar in quality and did was not justified by its price tag. However, the crews were friendly and the sole grilled food we ordered was one tiny thing to salvage the entire dining experience.

Chorus By The Quay has received certain hypes over social media when it was introduced in Straits Quay Penang. They take pride of their grilled food prepared in Josper Grill, and having a carousel right at the entrance of the restaurant.

We went there as our daughter was thrilled to have a carousel ride. Then we were thinking Chorus By The Quay would make an ideal choice, as we could enjoy our dinner while the young kid having some fun time riding the carousel.

Well, we were there only to discover the carousel has broken down and repair is not yet completed. Okay, machines do break down and we have no qualms over it. As long as the food is good then the entire experience would be pleasant.

The restaurant do have a large steak menu, ranging from Angus Ribeye, Wagyu Ribeye, Tomahawk, pork ribs and more. However we decided to go simple and just have a Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce (RM 22).

The Chicken Chop is great with tender meat and nicely char skin. It still retains the succulent texture of the meat and we did enjoy having it. As a matter of fact, the sauce was not indeed and the chicken was good on its own after grilled.

However, the pasta we ordered - Iberico Secreto with Truffle was a disaster in making. For RM 35, I have a pasta that seemingly have been dipped in sea water for hours. The saltiness was excessive and unbereable. Scent of truffle too, was not sighted, and the so called Iberico offers the texture alike to artificial meat made from mushroom. There were barely 10 pieces of the Iberico and its size was smaller than the fish cakes you get from typical Char Koay Teow.

The only good thing I could mention about the pasta was the al-dente noodles.

Next, the disastrous dinner continued with the Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream (RM 22). What I got probably was a chocolate cupcake purchase from neighbour convenience store with cold chalky texture without any molten oozing chocolate. As for the vanilla ice cream, the affordable ice cream potong sold in traditional store or the ice cream sold by uncle riding a bike tasted better than it.

I could not brain how the world lava could be define in this dessert. Perhaps it was the melted ice cream that turn out to look alike lava when mix together with the chocolate. This Chocolate Lava Cake is totally a rip off for RM 22.

The catastrophe did not end there. The Choholcate Milkshake (RM 15) probably was brewed to have a mission to create more diabetic patient in Penang with extreme sweetness, while the Cappuccino (RM 12.50) barely register any coffee scent.

Perhaps I came here for the wrong food and drinks. I should only order grilled items and alcohols. Anyway, the night was terrible after having a dinner here. This is one of the place that I would not return for the subpar food which was not justifiable from its price tag.
