Luo Dong (羅東) @ Sungai Petani, Kedah

One of the best cafe that offers quality cakes and affordable food in Sungai Petani ought to be Luo Dong (羅東). This Taiwanese inspired cafe is hidden at a residential area, slightly off from the major town area. Luo Dong is very popular among the locals, and it is often fully occupied during lunch hours, as people come here due to the nice food with affordable price tag. 

The cafe is separated into 2 sections - the outdoor alfresco area where you can order the main dishes and drink, and the indoor where you can order cakes. Nevertheless, you can feel free to sit anywhere you prefer. Even you just order a bowl of noodle, you are free to sit in the air-conditioner indoor. 

Menu is pretty straight forward here with a few selections of rice and noodles. Most of them carry influence of Taiwanese dishes such as braised pork rice, sesame oil chicken, mui cai kou rou rice, and local options such as curry noodles are offered too. The price is very wallet-friendly, ranging between RM 6 to RM 9.

The braised pork rice is simple and direct. It comes with some nicely braised pork, then the rice is topped with an egg and lightly drizzled with the soy sauce. It is a comforting food but people with big appetitie may consider to upsize as the portion is relatively small.

My favourite here is the curry noodles. It is served with 2 pieces of chicken meat, some long beans, and the curry is midly hot. The curry gravy somehow is a mixture of the typical Penang white curry mee and Chinese style curry chicken, which makes it very addictive.
