Chinese New Year 2023 poised to be very happening in Olive Tree Hotel Penang as the hotel prepares a variety of dining options for guests to welcome the rabbit year. The hotel in Bayan Lepas is currently offering set menu with a choice of RM 1688+ or RM 1888+ package, and one can choose to have the set menu during either lunch or dinner with a minimum order of 2 tables of 10 persons.
Recently we were privileged to be invited by Olive Tree Hotel Penang to have a trial on the RM 1688+ menu.
Each 8-course set menu will start with Olive Tree's signature Salmon Yee Sang with fresh vegetables & fruits for everyone to toss for a new greater height in the new year.
Next up is a refreshing Double Boiled Duck Soup with Dried Tangerine Peel. The usage of duck meat has rendered the soup brimming with incredibly rich taste. If you prefer to celebrate a premium dining here, opt for the RM 1888+ package and you can enjoy Double Boiled Premium Chicken Soup with Abalone, Sea Cucumber, Fish Maw and Dried Scallop.
Then the set menu continues with Steamed Chicken with Ginger & Onion. It tasted like Hainanese Chicken and goes very well with the Kailan. After that, we continue with Steamed Tiger Garoupa with Superior Sauce. The fish is fresh and the superior sauce did a wonderful touch to give it an elevated taste. After all, fish is a must have dish during Chinese New Year and it signifies there is additional leftover for the year.
Braised Dried Oyster, Sea Moss, Fish Maw, Abalone and Garden Greens are another luxury dish come next, before we continued with Wok Fried White Prawns with Thai Dried Garlic & Pepper. Personally, I think the chef did a wonderful job with the prawns as it possess a mild hotness on the skin arise from Thai dried garlic and pepper. It gives the tongue a playful sensation before we bite into the fresh flesh of the prawns.
After all the proteins, we end the dining with Olive Tree Seafood Noodles topped with Fish Fillet, before ended it with Chilled White Fungus and Snow Pear Dessert Soup Cotton Cake.
If you are dining here on 21 January 2023 (the eve of Lunar New Year), the 8-course set menu is only available for dinner. Then on the rest of the date, the set menus are available for both lunch and dinner, even on first and second day of Chinese New Year. A 10% surcharge is applicable for these 3 festive dates.
