Christmas & New Year 2022 Buffet @ Iconic Hotel, Penang

Iconic Hotel is famed for their signature Yee Sang as it comprises a range of healthy elements such as fruits and vegetables, making it unique on it on way and of course delicious too. Signature Fruits Yee Sang (RM 118+) or Garden Health Yee Sang (RM 88+) are offered, with the former comes with exquisite ingredients ranging from salmon, crispy fish skins and jelly fish whilst the latter comes with vegetarian abalone, sauteed mushrooms, fresh fruits and vegetables.

As for traditional 8-course meals, 3 different menus are being offered by the hotel, ranging from Happy Reunion Set (RM 1188+), Rich Fortune Set (RM 1588+) and Prosperity Treasure Set (RM 1888+). Here are some of the goodies we have sampled during their recent launch of Chinese New Year course meal.

There are a lot of premium and exclusivity we usually look forward in Chinese New Year are being showcased among the dishes. For instance, the braised abalone served with dried oysters, sea cucumbers are symbols of luxury, while the double boiled chicken soups with premium ingredients is indeed warm and comforting the to the palate.

Next up is a "Yuan Yang" style combination of roasted duck and fragrant garlic roasted chicken, which pack a depth of rich flavour. Gentle drizzle the thick sauce to the duck to give it a more robust flavour to the palate. Personally, we felt it was great as there are 2 different types of flavour being introduced in this dish, which is the umami roasted chicken and denser roasted duck.

Any Chinese New Year dinner is incomplete without a fish, which carries the meaning "Nian Nian You Yu" as a wish to have the year with abundance of surplus. The grouper fish is prepared in Cantonese style and topped with premium soy sauce. It was a soothing dish and very gentle to the palate, and the timing comes just nice after the flavourful chickens and ducks.

The hotel also include more luxurity in their dishes by having giant freshwater prawns fried with oats and crispy garlic leaves. Meanwhile, there are some departure of conventional by having seafood fried rice in Nyonya style but it was indeed refreshing to have some flavourful fried rice to conclude the meal.

Before the meal ends, the hotel has prepared a double boiled snow lotus with a range of Chinese herbs to cool the body as we prepare for more goodies in Chinese New Year.
