Rebak Island Private Island Resort Review @ Langkawi

There is no shortage of luxury and 5 stars hotels and resorts in Pulau Langkawi but little did we know there is a private island named Pulau Rebak that can be accessed from there.

We imediatelly discussed and plan for a potential trip to Pulau Rebak via Langkawi as soon as we know its existence. Though the 3 days 2 night stay at Pulau Rebak comes close to expenditure of RM 1k (inclusion of 1 lunch and 1 dinner), it was totally worth the money spent. The island is very secluded with minimum people, the resort is nice with spacious room, and there are various activities that can be done in the island.

The sole downside of staying in Pulau Rebak is difficulty going in and out from the island to Pulau Langkawi as ferry is very limited and only operates in certain hour. Nevertheless, it was an issue for us as we thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in the private island without needing to go out.

Going to Pulau Rebak from Langkawi

Pulau Rebak is accessible from Langkawi via Cenang Terminal, which is located approximately 10 minutes driving from Langkawi International Airport. Any taxi or Grab drivers will able to take you to the jetty precisely.

Cenang Terminal operates the private boat to and from Pulau Rebak following a schedule which you could check at Pulau Rebak website. We dropped an email to notify the resort on the time we will be taking the boat from Cenang terminal. It is better to do so as our boat to the island was fully occupied.

Cenang Terminal is rather small but is covered, and there is a crew from Rebak Resort stationed there to handle all your needs, including taking your names for the boat ride and handling your luggages. Fret not if it rains as the terminal is shielded with a roof.

Arrival at Rebak Resort

The boat journey to Pulau Rebak is relatively short and probably takes about 10 minutes. It was a smooth journey without much bumps.

We can feel the attentiveness and great services rendered by Rebak Island Resort staff as soon as we get out from the boat. Apart from the standard greetings, they helped us with all the luggages and get us to the resort lobby with a buggy.

Check-in into resort room was a swift process and we were given a welcome drinks while waiting for the room. If you have plan to engage in activities provided in the resort such as jungle tracking, bicycling, mangrove tour or batik lessons, there is a staff in charge of activities in the front office counter and you can consult him for enquiries or booking.

Deluxe Room In Rebak Resort

Rebak Island Resort offers a range of rooms, ranging from the simplest 47 sqm Deluxe Room to the luxury 125 sqm Senari Suite or 103 sqm Two Bedroom Suite. Deluxe room cost average about RM 380 per night while Senari Suite would probably cost up to more than RM 800 per night.

Well, we are from a normal family thus Deluxe Room in Rebak private island is considered as good enough for us. The room in deluxe room is spacious, and has a separate living room that comes with a dining table, along with a balcony overseeing the garden.

The ensuite bathroom comes with a large shower room and a bath tub that makes the overall stay here even better. Overall, the room designs may be old-school and antiqued but it did not really bothered us.

However, due to the floor in living room is made of wood and each Deluxe room is located at either the ground or first floor wooden chalet, we can hear vividly the loud sound of foot thumping the wood. Worst case for us during our stay as we had an insane neighbour that turn on the radio loud at 6am in the morning.

When the dusk set in, the surrounding of the chalet could get really dark and we could hear the buzzing bettles and sound of crickets stridulation from the adjacent forest.

Activities in Rebak Resort

Some came and asked us, what did you do in Rebak Resort for 3 days 2 nights without getting out there?

Well, there are plenty of activities you cen engage there by asking the activty staff at the reception counter. He is usually on duty during normal office hours.

If you are a luxury traveler, go for a private dining that can setup in any corner of the island for you, a spa experience, a sunset cruise, mangrove or stingray tour, or even a private tour and tutor of batik lessons.

However couple like us who are travelling on a normal budget choose to go simple at Rebak Island Resort.

Apart from swimming, taking a stroll by the beach or letting our kid playing in the dedicated games room, there is also bicycle can be rented at RM 30/ hour to cycle around the island.

That is the time available for a couple travelling with a kid like us. Imagine she wakes up at 9am in the morning, go to breakfast then play a while, then continue with lunch before afternoon nap, then wakes up and go to swimming and dinner. There is no time that can be freed up for other activities.

Food in Rebak Island

If you decided to stay in Rebak island without going out, then you have to resort to settle all your 3 meals - breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the sole restaurant - Senari.

Buffet breakfast is complimentary for all guests staying in the resort but there is nothing exciting about the buffet. Choice was scarce and refill was limited. I was there at 7.30am on the first day and the buffet spread was full still but my another partner went at 9am for the breakfast and all the food was finishing.

All day dining is provided at Senari with a comprehensive menu featuring Western, Asian, Burgers, Pasta, Pizza and even kid menu. As our package came with 2 complimentary dining vouchers at Senari so we fully utilized it and have our meals here. You can pick any 1 appetizer or dessert + 1 main dish regardless of the price from the menu.

Even if you were to pay, the price here is still within acceptable range. Though the crews' service here were impeccable, the taste of the food was average. We preferred their Asian range dishes rather than Western dishes, and most of the items here were heavily seasoned with salt and pepper which we did not enjoy. The mushroom soup is one of the example that it was heavily seasoned with salt to the extent we could not finish it.

If you feel like taking an escape from the all day dining menu, you can order a steambot set (RM 75/pax, minimum 2 pax) for dinner but it has to be pre-order 1 day in advance. It comes with 2 types of soup - clear and tomyam, along with a set of ingredients that included prawns, fishballs, tofu, siu mai (which is an odd choice for steambot) and many other ingredients.

The steamboat may not be any special in terms of taste and presentation but we are contended. At least it is something to escape from the heavily seasoned food.

Overall, staying at Rebak Island private island resort is one of the unique and memorable experience we had. It is quiet, relaxing and serene to stay in the private island with minimal interruption from the outsiders. Furthermore, the room is big and spacious and perfect fit for family or couple who is here for a holiday.

We would definitely return here for another trip.
