It was a privilege to attend the Swedish Movie Screening and Exhibition of Adaptive Fashion, organized by Embassy of Sweden in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with European Film Festival.
The European Film Festival (EUFF) in Malaysia has been a celebration of European movies for the last 22 years. During this period, critically acclaimed and independent films across Europe will be showcased in Golden Screen Cinema (GSC).Â
Swedish film "Catwalk" was among the 17 films showcased during EUFF. The film is documentary depicting how a group of 5 individuals become fashion models, which seems to be an unattaiable dreams for them due to their disability. The film has been nominated in Kristallen 2021, the official Swedish television award for best documentary.Â
The movie Catwalk also serve as an inspration to many people on determination and inclusion in the society today. Many may still experience differential treatment due to disabilities, and such prejudice should be minimised as everyone has different way to contribute to the betterment of the society.

His Excellency Dr Joachim Bergström, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia was present during the screening of the film. To further showcase the embassy and ambassador's efforts for the special needs group, the embassy collaborated with Sunway College - Stylo Fashion Technology hub and Miss Amazing Malaysia to work up a sustainable up-cycling fashion. His Excellency himself also sew a man adaptive jacket made of upcycled materials for auction.

During the screening of the film Catwalk in GSC Penang, two of the talents from Miss Amazing also present to showcase their wonderful works. Other amazing outfits made from upcycled materials also being displayed at the foyer of the cinema.Â

It is indeed heartwarming to learn that Embassy of Sweden and the ambassador has displayed and exercised such level of affection and care to the special needs community. Indeed, the society needs more this positive energy for a total betterment.
