Three 五 Zero is a private dining area managed by Tien Residence along the bustling Chulia Street. What makes Three 五 Zero different compared to others is they do not have a resident chef, and instead invite chefs or restauranters around Malaysia and host private sessions here. Currently, the restaurant is working with Halia Merah, a pork-free Nyonya restaurant to work out a course dinner. Three 五 Zero is able to host up to 12 people, so call them up and make an enquiry to see what is the latest happenings in this uniquely operating private dining restaurant.
During our visit along with some friends, we were treated with a Nyonya inspired course meals and gave another dimension of appreciation to some of these commonly home cooked dishes.
We started the dinner with Nyonya Laksa. It is similar akin to Nyonya Laksa that offers rich and creamy taste sold by a few hawkers in Penang, but we can feel the Nyonya Laksa here is slightly thinner which allow us to enjoy the soup more. The chef creatively used thick vermicelli noodles to absorb the creamy soup, and this dish is definitely one of the star of the night.
It is not easy to find these version of Nyonya Laksa in Penang nowadas too so we were glad to be able to have it here.
Next come is Blue Pea Rice and served along with Chicken Lobak, Jiu Hu Char and Kapitan Chicken. Perhaps we were used to pork lobak so we find the chicken lobak is kind of odd in taste, especially it lacks the chewy and soft fillings as pork lobak used to.
The Kapitan Chicken and Jiu Hu Char were nice though. Although the Kapitan chicken may looks fiery hot due to its reddish appearance but the real taste is more like a complex flavour with combination of spices.
Sup Spicy Papaya Titek |
Asam Pedas Ikan |
Next up is 2 different type of soup - Sup Spicy Papaya Titek and Asam Pedas Ikan. This marks our first times come across Sup Spicy Papaya Titek, where green papayas were being used to cook the curry along with spices. The resultant soup is appetizing, with a combination sweet, spicy and a bit of sour in the soup. Usage of papaya by Peranakan people in the soup preparation is indeed a genius move.
The Asam Pedas Ikan are spicy fish soup that goes well with the rice.
The dinner then finishes with a traditional Nyonya dessert - Bee Koh Moi.
Overall, if you get fatigued by the homogeneous Western dishes in the stream of cafes in town or endless hawker food hunt that caused you have overwhelmed dinner, try out Three 五 Zero by Tien Residences to check out what they have currently. The Nyonya inspired meal by Halia Merah is definitely a winning star though.
