Chinese Food in Langkawi - San Restaurant 杉海鲜茶餐室

If you want to eat like how locals did in Langkawi, then check out San Restaurant in Kuah town. The neighbourhood kopitiam sells a variety of noodles and kuih during breakfast, then focuses on rice with a limited choice of dishes starting lunch.

The restaurant has immense popularity among the locals that no seats were available during our visit on a Friday morning, and the wanton mee were sold out at 10.30am. Food is decent and comfort, and San is indeed a good option to escape the touristy food in Pantai Cenang though it may take up to 30 minutes drive to Kuah from Pantai Cenang.

San restaurant offers a range of noodles such as Wantan Mee, Chicken Mee, Loh Mee, Curry Mee, Herbal Chicken Mee, Porridge and others. The menu mentioned they specially make their Wantan Mee (RM 7)  so we gave it a try.

The noodles texture were slightly different than the conventional wantan mee we had. It was definitely homemade as we can taste the irregular in noodles consistency, and the noodles were thicker than usual. The wantan noodles were cooked with al-dente and served with a generous quantity of red-coloured char siew and 3 pieces of dumplings.

Koay Teow Soup here is pretty decent and served along with a generous quantity of ingredients such as minced porks and vegetables. The chef may have been a little generous with their peppers and our young daugther was slightly resistant toward the strong peppery smell. It is noted they used thin type of koay teow noodles which is our favourite.

There is a small corner in the restaurant, offering a variety of local inspired kuih and cakes. It is a help yourself corner so just take whatever you like and let the lady owner count how much is the total cost at your table.

Personally, I like their chai koay.

Another corner is selling a variety of dishes, which we assumed is being prepared for lunch hours later. Not many dishes available but here may be the location by many for lunch, considering Chinese food is pretty scarce in Langkawi.
