Walking along the famous Pantai Cenang main road in Langkawi and almost everyone is spoilt for choice for food. While there are many touristy restaurants and the operators will give their best to court you to their outlets, we felt there are still a few of them still dishing out great food despite their higher price tags. One of them is Yasmin Syrian restaurant serving authentic Arabic cuisine.
The facade of Yasmin is pretty much touristy with fluorescent light lit up the exterior and a tandoori grilling station to attract you. However, it is definitely worth stepping in and enjoy the food here, ranges from mezze to grilled proteins. Other familiar dishes in the restaurant included hummus, falafel, tabouleh and shawarma. Expect touristy price on the food but price is well justified with the quality and quantity in Yasmin restaurant.

While we are flattered by the variety of choices in Yasmin, we settled for a few familiar dishes such as Falafel (RM 18) and Chicken Shawarma (RM 28). The falafel's filling is good and goes well with the yoghurt dip, but somehow the skin is slightly burnt and gave away a slight unpleasant smell. If not of the burnt and dried skin, these falafels would have been awesome.
On the other hand, the chicken shawarma is good. We liked the idea it has been sliced to finger bites sandwich size, and we can just take it using our bare hand and dip into the sauce. The chicken shawarma is juicy and delicious, while the skin holding the filling is just nice in thickness which make every mouthful pleasant. Generous fries is given along with the chicken shawarma so it is best to share the platter with 2 or more peeople.
Our favourite dish of the night goes to Chicken Maklouba (RM 34). The biryani rice is aromatic, thansk to the combination of herbs used to cook it and elevated by presence of generous quantity of cashew nuts too. What surprised us is the grilled eggplants that tasted delicious and juicy, and there were probably 5 or 6 of grilled eggplants surrounding the rice.
The chicken meat is tender and juicy till I do not mind having more of it. The entire dish goes well with the combination of spicy and yoghurt sauce too. A serving of salad at the side made the chicken maklouba a complete nutrients for the meal that contributed to carbohydrates, proteins, fibers and various minerals.
A flat bread is given complimentary. We just eat it along with the falafel and randomly. It tasted good too.
Overall, the dinner at Yasmin restaurant is satisfying. Despite located at a touristy area, the restaurant lived up its expectation by serving authentic Arabic cuisine and the friendly staff made the dining process here comfortable. Recommend to try it if you happen to be around Pantai Cenang Langkawi.
