Camping Themed Breakfast & Brunch - Welcamp & Pastries Home Creations @ Jalan Lahat, Penang

Let us share to those having a sweet tooth on the location of a secretive pastry shop and cafe in Penang - Pastries Home Creations and Welcamp. The homemade pastry shop and cafeare is sharing the same location with HG Concept, a plant nursery cum workshop. Their location is very much concealed that it is easily to miss out. If you are going to Gurney, turn left to the small alley (Jalan Lahat) right after Scots Pavilion. It appears to be you are going to nowhere but fret not as you have arrived at the right place.

Pastries Homemade Creations sells a range of cakes, puffs and tarts. The place is beautiful as the owner set up some small tents and chairs, resembles an environment for camping so it is a great place to take some Instagrammable shots. What we liked about the cakes and tarts here is their mildly sweet flavour and absence of artificial colouring and preservatives.

You can order these cakes and dine in at Welcamp or have it takeaway too. Pastries Homemade Creation also offer milk shakes and juices. 

As for Welcamp, the cafe offers a camping dining experience in a green lush areas. We are assuming from the cafe's name that it is an abbrevation for "welcome to camping?. Welcamp currently opens on Saturday and Sunday only, so you got to plan your time to come here.

Welcamp offers a range of main dishes, ranging from the classic camping food Curry Maggi Mee, to the conventional Big Breakfast and variety of pasta. They also offer casual drinks you will encounter in cafe such as coffee and chocolates. 

To live up its expectations as a cafe that mirroring camping experience, the signature Curry Maggi Mee (RM 12) is served in a big aluminium camping pot. It tastes identical to the regular regular curry maggi you could get from the instant noodles packet but it was given an elevation by serving along a piece of cheese, sausages and eggs. Nevertheless, they claimed to be using secret homemade curry recipe, which is somehow true as the soup is thicker than the usual Maggi curry.

If you prefer to have a more healthy weekends over here, then skip the noodles and go for their Big Breakfast, which can be ordered in a portion of 1 pax or shared among 2-3 pax. The platter comes with Omega scrambled egg, sausage, sauteed mushrooms, hashbrowns, momotaro tomatoes, baguette and baked beans. Pretty much a classic English style breakfast. 

Aside from that, Welcamp also offers a variety pasta, ranging from the classic Aglio Olio Smoked Duck, Creamy Carbonara, Bolognese, Aglio Olio Chicken Ham, Greeny Pesto to the eccentric taste Prawn Tomyam Pasta. Our favourite go to the Aglio Olio Smoked Duck as it offers a slight spicy taste. 

All in all, here is a nice place to chillout during weekends to enjoy company with friends, along with some great desserts and casual food.
