Bagan Samak is the usual pit stop whenever we are travelling back to Penang from Ipoh or Kuala Lumpur as we enjoy savouring their fresh river food from various restaurant there. For this trip, we realised the Chinese village has a new restaurant operating - 22 BS River Seafood Restaurant. It is hard to miss this restaurant as it occupies right at the front part of the village with a 3 storey building.
The good thing about 22 Bagan Samak River Seafood Restaurant is they have a proper menu, unlike some restaurants around Northern region that is solely based on the recommendations from the restaurant crews. Nevertheless, we can see the crews (or perhaps owner) here still trying to offer us some dishes that perhaps come with greater profit margins for them.
Overall, the dishes here were good but slightly expensive than the others. We ordered a Wild Cat Fish (RM 70/kg @ 800g) and the portion probably feeds just nice for 3 person. The fish was fresh and the sauce was good but maybe a tad more soy sauce that it supposed to be.
We were recommended to try their homemade tofu - Thai Signature Tofu (RM 18/small). The tofu is bigger than the regular commercialized tofu, has a crispy skin and soft filling, which is a textbook type of tofu we enjoyed. The sauce is flavourful and goes really well with the tofu. It is definitely a dish that not to be missed if you come to here.
The Lala (RM 20/small) we had were fresh and good. We particularly enjoyed the tangy and spicy soup, and the soup really helped to increase the appetite. It was so enjoyable that we almost finished all the soup!
All in all, good river food is served by Bagan Samak River Seafood Restaurant though it may be more expensive than the surrounding restaurants.
