In the serene and idyllic Bukit Mertajam Penang, is an eccentric restaurant & bar called Flvour. Nothing is unusual in the restaurant, with the conventional tables and chairs arrangements along with a bartender on duty to catery for your every needs. However, the menu offered a variety of peculiar yet making senses dishes. For instance, a pizza with Keerai curry base topped with papadom and anchovies, or sambal arabiata pasta, or even fried mushrooms with curry aioli. The combination may sounds odd, but the Western Asian fusion creative dishes did work out some wonder when comes to palate.

When we flipped through Flvour's menu, it appears thin crusted pizza (they call it twisted thin crusted over here) is one of their focus dishes with a few eccentric variety. Among the odd ones were salted egg based pizza, Hawaiian chicken sambal and Keerai chicken anchovies. Good thing here is they roll their own pizza dough, and surprisingly it turned out good and thin yet can hold such a generous portion of toppings.
We followed the restaurant's recommendation and go for Keerai Chicken Anchovies (RM 32), which is has a classic Indian Keerai curry base, mozarella cheese, crispy anchovies and deep fried curry leaves. It is then topped with a generous portion of papadom and green chillies. The weird combination worked surprisingly well, and the green chillies introduced a fiery hot sensation that somehow appealing to the taste buds. Apart from the heavy calories due to the papadom, Keerai Chicken Anchovies is definitely one of our favourite.Â
Flvour also offers a fair selection of fusion pasta such as sambal Arabiata, Rendang meatball spaghetti and even pasta goreng! We have no idea how they fry the pasta and decided to go for some classic dishes as we needed the conventional food so our daughter can enjoy it. It is commendable the pasta is priced affordably from RM 22 - RM 32.
The Sambal Arabiata (RM 22) is a creative dish which the chef introduced a tad heat element to the sweet tomato based pasta. Then it was topped with some popiah skin to give an additional crunchy sensation. This simple and creative pasta dish is highly recommended.

The restaurant also gets creative with their appetizers and tapas dishes. We were introduced to their Flvour Mushroom (RM 15), a sweet and spicy mushroom goreng popcorn served with curry sauce. The chef deep fried the button mushroom to create a crispy texture, then topped it with curry aioli for a sense of spiciness. It is unique and delicious too, and goes very well with alcohol drinks should you have any.Â
Other interesting small plates you could get here including Palak Panner, Keep it Shrimple, Lamb Kofta, Flaming Chicken and more.Â
Mushroom soup (RM 15) is one of the soup offered here, apart from classic kambing soup.Â
All in all, Flvour is the restaurant that injects vibrancy into the conventional food and industry business with their creativity. Their affordable priced food also made dining here a pleasant experience, albeit you may have to wait for some time as the chef prepares most of the thing, even the pizza dough from scratch. Take the time slow and order a cup or two cocktails based on your mood that day to pass the time then.Â
