One of the frequently posted question among visitors to Genting Highlands newly minted Skyworld Themepark is "what is the recommended restaurant for lunch?' Well, you can always go into SkyAvenue Genting and enjoy the famous and premium Burger & Lobster, Beauty In The Pot or even the wallet-friendly Malaysian Food Street.
Nevertheless, since you are outdoor and can only access here for limited time, why not make the most of your time by reducing travelling time and the hassle of getting to indoor? There is a great cafe in the themepark - Buck's Cafe in Ice Age area, with an interior resembles a cave. Buck's Cafe also feature an ice cream stall which currently offers limited 8 flavours ice cream, a cooperation between Inside Scoop, Nestle and Genting Highlands which is not available in elsewhere other than here in Buck's Cafe!
Buck's Cafe practices self service system exactly like IKEA. Take the pushcart and trays, then follow the line to order food in respective counter.
Basically, the food can be grouped into Chinese dishes such as Wantan Noodles and Ipoh Hor Fun, while the Western counter offers options such as Salmon, Pasta and etc. Various snacks and desserts are available too. The staff working here highly recommend Buck's Cafe as the food here is considered more affordable and the quality is above average.
As both of us hail from Penang, we did find the wantan mee here is pretty decent. The noodles are perfectly al-dente and the sauce mixture is good. The wantan may be big and come with generous portion of filling but the taste was average. Overall, it was something decent to fill up a hungry's stomach.
The Salmon here was average and perhaps a dash of salt and pepper could elevate the taste. Nonetheless, they did well on the salmon flesh, resulting a flaky skin and flaky fish.
Other snacks and dessert we tried here included fried wantan, takoyaki balls and mango pudding.
Buck's Cafe also has an unique and exclusive highlight point. The ice cream stall here is the sole cooperation between Nestle, Inside Scoop and Genting Highlands, offering 8 flavours which are exclusively available here on top of the other ice cream variants.
During our visit in lunch hours on a weekday, 6 out of 8 flavours were sold out! Therefore we only managed to try Teh Tarik and Soy Gula Melaka.
Verdict? It was good!
All in all, Buck's Cafe is a worthy spot for lunch or taking a break in Genting Highland Skyworld Thempark. At least you do not have to walk all the way to the indoor restaurants while still can enjoy some decent food with nice price.
