Whenever it comes to Chinese New Year, we always have full anticipation on the goodies offered by both Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Penang and Shangri-La Golden Sands. Come 2022, both resorts indeed come out with great Chinese delicacies, with options of dining in various outlets in the hotels as well as takeaway as gift or enjoy it at home. We managed to sample the Golden Sands Chinese New Year Set Menu, which is priced at RM 1388 for 8-10 person, along with some takeaway goodies.

Chinese New Year Promotion at Shangrila Rasa Sayang Resort and Golden Sands Resort

The takeaway goodies offered by Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang is not only a feast to the mouth but also aesthetically appealing to the eyes too. Personally, we feel the takeaway set makes a good gift to friends or family due to its pleasant packaging.

Among the exciting takeaways including Premium "Poon Choy" from RM 688 nett suitable for 6 to 8 persons, "Pipa" Duck at RM 288 nett, Roasted Chicken at RM 188 nett, Pearl Garoupa at RM 168 nett and various assortment of Yee Sang (Salmon - RM 188 nett, Jellyfish and Abalone - RM 88 nett, Fruits - RM 68 nett).

The exquisite gift sets are what we like the most. There are Prosperity Dessert Box consisting of nine cupcakes and two bootles of cookies at RM 168 nett, Tray ot Togetherness featuring eight diffferent types of snacks and a glutinous rice cake priced at RM 158 nett and the Lucky Goodie Box with five types of cookies at RM 158 nett.

Meanwhile, let's take a look at what Golden Sands Resort offers in their Chinese New Year Set Menu. It is priced at RM 1388 for 8-10 person, which is a fair price.

The first dish is the classic Hot & Cold Five Combination, featuring smoked duck breast salad with white sesame, deep-fried crab craws, stir fried green asparagus with pearl clams and chicken satay with peanut sauce.

The set then continues with Dried Scallop Crabmeat Seafood Soup and Steam Herbal Chicken. We like the combination of scallop and crabmeat, and it complements the lightness of the warm soup.

More goodies for the set menu, including Abalone Slice with Assorted Mushroom and Broccoli, Steamed Live Grouper with Lemon Sauce and Stir Fried King Prawns with Golden Egg Sauce. Each of the dish carries umami, sour and salty taste respectively that provide a balance of flavour for the set.

We personally thought the lemon sauce of the steamed live grouper is wondrous in taste, and the golden egg sauce is addictive.

We always never like the last dish before dessert during Chinese New Year course meal but the Crispy Noodle with Seafood Chef Sauce served here overturned our early mis-thought. It was good and the lightly seasoned sauce complemented the noodles well. Something that we even went for an additional bowl of it.

Lastly the set meal was concluded with Honey Dew Sago with Vanilla Ice Cream.

Apart from the set menu, both resorts also will be hosting a series of dining delights. The Chinese New Year dining in Spice Market Cafe in Rasa Sayang Resort begins on Chinese New Year's Eve, then continue to brunch on Chinese New Year's Dayand then dinner on the first and second evening of Chinese New Year. Similarly, Garden Cafe in Golden Sands also will be hosting Fortune Seafood Buffet starting Chinese New Year's Eve and first day of Chinese New Year.
