Majority of us enjoyed cafe hopping and taking Instagrammable pictures but much to dismay some of these popular cafes offer subpar food quality. However, this Japanese fusion French cafe name Nippori Bistro in Petaling Jaya offers both picturesque spots and delicious food. The restaurant has high ceiling and hangs a gigantic and peculiar fat Mona Lisa picture in the center. Nippori Bistro interior is very much French with Japanese influence, with some classic restaurant big chairs and tatami seatings. The bible thick menu offering a wide range of Japanese and Western dishes made us spoilt with choices.
Deciding what to order here is a humongous task. The menu offers traditional Japanese breakfast consisting rice to some commonly available English breakfast, ramens, burgers, Japanese donburi rice, pasta, pizza and desserts. We felt like order more than the portion meant for two but had to regulate our desire to prevent overeating.Â
We were pretty excited upon seeing French Onion Soup (RM 18) in the menu. We kind of missing this flavourful French traditional soup since we last had it in Paris. The soup was served piping hot in a small red pan, and it was lighter in taste compared to what we had expected. Perhaps chicken stock was used instead of beef stock. It offers some umami taste but a thicker and richer French Onion Soup would be our preference.Â
In addition, we would prefer croutons over breads as it offers a more individualized bite sizes.Â
Nippori Reimen was the pasta selection that tempted us as it is the signature dish with sashimi but we ended up order Ikura Lemon Seafood (RM 39)Â as our kid can enjoy the grilled salmon. It was a great choice as Ikura Lemon Seafood is delicious. The Japanese yuzu zest cream gives a refreshing and pleasant tangy sensation that whet our appetite instantly, along with the perfectly cooked al-dente pasta noodles. The seafood in the pasta which include salmon, clams and prawns were fresh too.
Mushoom Risotto (RM 32) was another great dish we had during the night. The chef used Japanese rice instead of Arborio rice, yet it was cooked perfectly and the overall risotto yielded a nice herby scent. It has a nice creamy flavour which we thoroughly enjoyed.Â
There are many interesting dishes that intrigued us such as Omu Char Siew, Nippori Bistro Burger, The Expensive One (Pizza) which has foie gras and many more. Unfortunatey stomach has reached its maximum capacity.
Both Matcha Latte (RM 14) and Premium Chocolate (RM 15) were great. We particularly enjoyed the premium chocolate which has rich chocolately taste.Â
We tooked away a croissant and Danish chocolate back to hotel as the pastry counter was very tempting. The oozing chocolate of the Danish Chocolate was a highlighting point.Â
Ovearll the dining experience at Nippori Bistro was great and beyond expectations. The service crews were friendly, attentive and even accomodating to us as we bring along a young toddler. We arrived there without reservation but the crews managed to get us a table within minutes upon checking. For the quality food with the reasonable price tag, we did see why Nippori Bistro was almost full house during a weekday night during our visit. Therefore, it is recommended to ring the restaurant for an advance booking to prevent disappointment.Â
