After a long period of quarantine at home and geting sick of own's cooking, we felt like taking a day off from the kitchen and decided to order some homecook food for our lunch. Okay, there are dozens of homecooks out there but at the same time, it is hard to find them as some of them have been keeping a relatively low profile. Eventually, we learnt one of our acquainstance is helping his mother on some homecook lunch, so we decided to give a try as they produce some of the dishes we could not master at home. Check out Mommy's Kitchen Penang, and you would be impressed by their homecook dishes.
Being a homecook, Mommy's Kitchen Penang operates twice a week only - Monday and Thursday. Pre-order has to be made 3 days prior the date by whatsapp your order to 6011-1091 3693. What we like about Mommy's Kitchen Penang is their different menu offered every Monday and Thursday. At least we would not be bored of the selections if we were to order repeatly.
The main dishes available during our order day is Nasi Lemak (RM 10.90). If you enjoy nasi lemak, you would expect the two key elemtents of the nasi lemak - coconut rice and sambal to be awesome, which Mommy's Kitchen Penang certainly did a great job. The sambal in this dish is fiery hot, and we can taste fragments of dried prawns within. It complements well the blue pea rice, which has traces of creaminess to justify it being called as Nasi Lemak. On top of that, generous portion of sambal also given and it is in fact more than enough, so we kept some for our dinner.
The Nasi Lemak Set also come with a piece of fried chicken.
Another main dish we had that day is Fried Tomyam Maggi (RM 4.00) and we kind of enjoyed it. The noodles are expertly fried to al-dente, then come along a moderate mixture of tanginess and spiciness. Both taste are not overwhelming and complementing each others well.
Apparently Mommy's Kitchen Penang Fried Tomyam Maggi is a popular choice and highly rated among their regulars. Give it a shot as your tea break during your order if this item appears on your menu.
The Nyonya Pork Curry is addictive too, attributed to its creaminess and spiciness. It is best take along with some white rice to make sure these curries do not get wasted.
Dessert of the day is Sweet Peanut Soup Dessert.
On a separate day, we ordered their lunch and we had Nyonya Gulai Tumis Ikan Pari (RM 18.00 / a la carte) and Boey Chai Pork Belly (RM 15.90 / a la carte). Once again, those love spicy curry food will definitely enjoy their Nyonya Gulai Tumis, which is brimming with spices and heat. The a la carte portion also come generously with 4 pieces of stingray fishes.
The Hakka inspired Boey Chai Pork Belly did not disappoint and managed to whet our appetite with the soft pork belly.
Dessert of the day is Bean Curd and Barley. We enjoyed it as the sweet level is just mild and not overwhelming.
If you are a fan of rice dumpling and have no idea where to get one during normal day, you can order Bak Zhang from them and it is available all day! Two variants are available - Conventional (RM 8.00) and Brown Rice with Oats (RM 9.00).
Taste wise, it is more than enough to whet our appetite and satiate our cravings for bak zhang.
