I can't remember when was the last time we slept in a hotel's bed. Probably it was more than a year ago during the babymoon trip to Kuching when Shirleen was about to be barred from taking flight. Then Covid-19 becomes a pandemic, then the rest were as expected. In April 2021, we were glad to be spend a comfortable night in hotel bed, this times at OZO Hotel in the center of Georgetown Penang. This round the hotel staycation ought to be different, as we have a baby to squeeze in between the center of our bed.Â
One of the primary reason why we choose OZO Hotel Georgetown is its strategic location and the panaromic view offering the iconic sight of KOMTAR - the landmark building of Penang. Within a stone's throw away from the hotel are a few famous local hawker food, such as Nasi Padang Minang, Roti Canai Transfer Road, Chee Meng Wantan Mee and many more. Of course, OZO Hotel is a perfect gateway for you to explore the UNESCO Heritage Georgetown area.
We thought the check-in counter and lobby at OZO Hotel Georgetown is unique, and kinda like it actually. It is located at high floor (though not uncommon to have hotel lobby at higher floor) but the glimpse of view of Komtar yields a welcoming feeling. On top of that, the lobby and lounge feels like home instead of a new place with its furniture settings, a cabinet decorated with Nyonya items and French windows.Â
Sadly as Covid-19 strikes, the hotel lobby has temporarily shifted to ground floor; and dining service is suspended too.Â
As for the rooms, it is small but cozy. Our Deluxe Room has a comfortable king size bed and a modern lazy sofa facing the television. The air conditioner helped us to settle into the room quickly, escaping the scorching hot sun out there. We enjoyed the shower room equipped with strong rainshower, and thanks to the housekeeping team for keeping the cleanliness at tip top condition.
Nevertheless, the sound proof system appears to be insufficient to mask the sounds of kids crying and shouting at the corridor. We were concerned that if our baby cries then it disrupts the others' sleeping quality. Thankfully our baby settled quickly and had a good sleep throughout the night.Â
Although the hotel appears to be small but it is equipped with a rooftop swimming pool and a small scale gym as well. 2 days 1 night is too short for us to enjoy these facilities, perhaps business travellers would appreciate these facilities more.Â
 Conventionally hotels with price range similar to OZO hotel in Georgetown area do not provide car park as land is scarce in Penang island. However, OZO Hotel makes a difference by providing high-tech automated multi-level parking, which is definitely a plus point. It can cater up to a few dozens of vehicles at least.
Last but not least, we are thankful to the hotel receiptionist for allowing us for a late check out despite they have the rights to decline us. This allow our baby to have her usual afternoon nap, then continued her travel journey. Otherwise we would have a fussy baby to deal with in later of the day.Â
Overall, it was a pleasant and comfortable stay in OZO Hotel Georgetown. Despite its affordability, comfy is not compromised at all.
