Miche Nanyang Coffee is a relatively new restaurant venture in Maritime Plaza in Karpal Singh Drive. The restaurant is located at the previous lot occupied by Monopoly Social Exchange Lounge, which has underwent several restaurant ownership changes. While the restaurant name suggests it specializes at Nanyang cuisine such as coffee, toasts, Chinese inspired stir-fried dishes and so on, the reality it otherwise. On top of the mentioned dishes, the restaurant basically serves almost everything - pizza, porridge, Chinese dumplings, burgers and etc. The food is averagely priced for an air-conditioned settings and at the same time offer an average taste food without much excitement. Just another restaurant should you need a fix on your lunch or dinner.
We were misled when we thought Miche Nanyang Coffee's forte will be their Nanyang coffee, toast and egg set due to their restaurant's name. It surprised us when we browsed through their menu and they did not offer any egg, coffee and toast combination set, which would have been in the menu of any Nanyang coffee shop. The single order Butter Kaya Toast (RM 4.50) was alright in taste luckily, but the Nanyang Coffee (RM 5.30 - cold) and Signature Long Fung Pao Kopi (RM 4.80 - hot) did not impress. The signature Long Fung Pao Kopi has an odd salty taste, which gradually gets better as we sip it but it is definitely an acquired taste.
On the other hand, the Nyonya Dumpling (RM 6.80) is not bad. It offers a fair balanced of sweet and savoury taste. It has been some time we did not see Nyonya dumpling on restaurant menu.
The congee - Fresh Lala & Fish Head Congee (RM 15.00) we had was alright too. It is served with abundance of lala and fried fish fillets but the overall portion could be small if you are someone with a big stomach. The taste is more on a savoury and umami side, but it is indeed soothing if you come on a gloomy weather day.
Hope the restaurant can last longer than its predecessor, Monopoly Social Exchange Lounge or even MCuisine.
