Thai food connoisieurs probably know a few of the big names of Thai restaurants in Penang such as Kun Thai and others. However, today we are sharing one least known food outlet that sells authentic Thai food - Foodie Noodles Restaurant 福有面有福 at Elit Avenue. Yes, the restaurant name resembles nowhere close to Thai food but the truth is that the restaurant is being run by a Thai people married to local. Therefore, expect to see Thai cuisine such as Kaengsom, Tomyam, boat noodles and many more. Furthermore, you can get tantalizing Thai food here without denting your wallet here. Truly a Thai food gem unearthed.
Foodie Noodles Restaurant 福有面有福 has a relatively thick menu offering a selection of Thai food, and you can play around with your food selections by choosing different noodles and its accompaniments. We gave a try on their Thai Boat Noodles (Beef) with Thai Koay Teow (RM 14.40). The noodle is served piping hot to our table and the depth of flavour of the broth is amazing. Coupled with slices of tender meat and succulent meat balls as accompaniments, this bowl of Thai boat noodles is satisfying in taste. Although general people like us has a thought that boat noodles usually served in smaller portion but the version here comes in regular dining portion, thus one bowl should be more than enough to feed a normal man stomach.
Another worthy and crowd pleasing food to try here would be their Prawn Tomyam Fried Rice (RM 13.90). It packs all Thai flavour as a whole - from umami, sour and hot. A well balanaced staple food that anybody could enjoy.
Snacking is common in Thai restaurant as the complexity of Thai flavour often fully manifested in their snacks. We had a Signature Bean Curd (RM 7.50) and only learn that these bean curds were home made. No wonder it has such a sleek texture that cannot be found elsewhere. Another Thai style snack here we tried was Thai Spring Roll (RM 6.00), a true bargain as there were abundance of it in a plate for RM 6.00. Unlike conventional spring rolls that has jicama as filling, these Thai spring rolls utilize rice vermicelli instead. A new flavour that my tongue yet to recognise the moment we had it.
Being a Thai restaurant, you can also get Thai Crispy Ruby (RM 6.90), or better known as Tub Tim Grob here. I pretty enjoy the Tub Tim Grob here as it tastes pretty authentic with decently milky with aromatic coconut scent, then served along with generous quantity of water chesnuts and jackfruit slices. Thai inspired drinks such as Thai Milk Tea (RM 3.80) and Thai Milk Green Tea (RM 4.20) is available too.
Overall, Foodie Noodles Restaurant 福有面有福 is a place to come if you are looking for authentic and affordable Thai food in Penang.
