Chinese New Year 2021 Festive Delights @ Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang

Chinese New Year 2021 is just a few weeks shy away. Despite Covid-19 pandemic still lurking and rampaging in our community, we should be thankful as we are still healthy and able to celebrate Chinese New Year, albeit in a tuned down and practice safety measures. In view of that, Eastern & Oriental Hotel, one of the grandest hotel in Penang has launched several festive delights including steamboat, course menu, eat-all-you-can, and even Chinese New Year goodies takeaway. Fret not, the hotel has been practising tight safety precautious following the guidlines by Ministry of Health.

For course menu, Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang has rolled out 3 different set (minimum 12 person per set), namely Fortune Set (RM 88.80+ per pax), Longetivity Set (RM 138.80+ per pax) and Prosperity Set (RM 188.80+ per pax). In the new guidelines, all diners will get their individual portion prepared and served directly in front to you. 

The Longetivity Set Menu starts with a Prosperity Salmon Sashimi Yee Sang, tossing away all the bad luck and brings abundance of prosperity and health in this challening year.

Next up is Chicken Broth with Shredded Abalone, Sea Cucumber and Crab Meat, follow by Deep Fried Crispy Boneless Chicken with Pineapple Sauce. Both dishes are well executed.

Following the Chinese New Year tradition, fish dish is a must in the menu and the hotel has come up with Hong Kong Style Steamed Tiger Grouper. The freshness of the fish is commendable, and the simplicity of cooking with julienned carrots, mushrooms and scallions along with soy sauce render a clean and simple, yet delicious dish. 

My personal favourite of the night ought to be their Mongolian Style Lamb Rack. The lamb rack is cooked to perfection - succulent and tender, while the sauce is robust in flavour. 

After that, we were served with Sauteed Brcocoli and Mushroom in Superior Oyster Sauce to clenase the palate, before another giant weight - Wok Fried Prawns in Kam Heong Sauce is being brought to the table. The gigantic prawn size has done more than enough justification to make it available on the menu.

The set menu then ended with Lotus Leaf Rice with Chicken, Mushroom and Dried Shrimps before the dessert - Sweetneed Snow Fungus and Dried Longan topped with Mandarin Orange Skin and Shanghai Pancakes. 

Overall, the dishes are impressive and leave a memorable palatable journey.
