Probably there are less than 10 cafes in Georgetown Penang offers Malay inspired cuisine, rendering folks visiting here has to visit warung far away from town to enjoy authentic Malay dishes. However, recently we learnt that Lebuh Clarke Georgetown has a new cafe opening - Citarasa Dadi Dada. The no-frills cafe has a simple, no air-conditioned but well ventilated settings, and they churn out homey Malay dishes such as Mee Udang (Prawn Noodles) and rice set with a variety of dishes. All these dishes are creation based on an original Penang family recipe since 1940s.
Thanks to Citarasa Dadi Dada for hosting
We went to Citarasa Dadi Dada during an afternoon lunch with our baby girl, so you can assume the non-air conditioned settings are all fine. The menu here is simple. Signatures are their Mee Udang, and we learn they are introducing a new item on the menu - Set Nasi Ikan Jenahak Asam Pedas. We ordered these 2 signature dishes without further doubt.
For you who'd like to splurge once in a while, go for their Mee Udang Special (RM 19.90), just like the one we had in above pictures because it came with additional and bigger prawns compared to the Regular version (RM 15.90). You can expect the mee udang here hits the quintessential quality of mee udang with fresh prawns, a mild spicy and overall light gravy taste. Personally, we enjoyed the lightness in the gravy, though some may prefer a gravy based with strong prawns scent.
If you notice, the portion here is rather big too.
Alternative to Mee Udang is Mee Goreng Udang, where the yellow noodles are being stirred fried altogether with prawns.
Next up is off the menu item - Set Nasi Ikan Jenahak Asam Pedas. It is a refreshing dish with a combination of both spicy and sour taste, complementing the fresh flesh of the snapper fish. The sinful way of enjoying this dish will be pairing the semi-rich gravy with the salted egg, followed by the fresh of the fish.
You can have Ikan Bawal, Sambal Udang, Ayam Goreng, Ikan Cencaru as an alternative to Ikan Jenahak.
The jumbo size drinks here is indeed a scene to glare at. Just look at the big size of the glass of Apple Asam Boi (RM 11), which is more than enough to quench the thirst of both of us (not the baby though).
