65 Ondo Bakery Cafe @ Eco Bloom, Simpang Ampat, Penang

65 Ondo Bakery Cafe is one of the latest trending cafe in Penang without doubt. Located in the commercial lot of Eco Bloom in Simpang Ampat, the Instagrammable cafe has attracted people made a beeline since its inception in early December 2020. The cafe has gained an almost instant popularity due to its highly picturesque spot, and also it claims to serve high quality toasts utilizing premium graded flour and butter imported from Japan. Although 65 Ondo carries the name cafe, it does not have any proper meal menu but instead feature an impressive array of pastries and desserts, and the drinks menu is only available at the counter. 65 Ondo was so popular that it was full house during our visit on a weekday afternoon, with majority of the patrons are youngsters after the highly Instagrammable settings. Prepare to have cash on hand during your visit as the cafe does not accept any other form of payment, as of now.

The scene at 65 Ondo Bakery Cafe was rather chaotic during our visit. It was full-house, and the queue waiting for cashier was being cleared by a slow pace as the cashier has to attend to various tasks at one time, but the crews deserved compliment for remaining clams despite the crowd. You can head to the side counter to take a tray and pick your desired pastries, then head to cashier to order your desserts and pastries, follow by payment. All in total, I think we waited for close to 15 minutes just for payment.

We had a Lava Salted Egg Croissant (RM 10.90) and Matcha Tiramisu Cake (RM 15.00). Well, the croissants are those typical you get in bakery shop with salted egg filling. Not exactly buttery or flaky as we hoped for but it is above average. Meanwhile, the Matcha Tiramisu Cake is fine with sleek creamy texture and mild matcha flavour that will linger in the mouth. 

 

I was lucky to be able to grab the last Japanese Soft White Bread (RM 11.00) on the shelf. It appears to be very popular among the diners, as most of the tables have a Shokupan Set with 4 flavours jam. On the other hand, both drinks - Hot Mocha (RM 11.00) and Hot Niko Neko Hojicha Latte (RM 13.00) we had was average. 

Overall, 65 Ondo Bakery Cafe is worth visiting but be prepared to be thronged by a large crowd.
