My Secret Cafe - Cafe Without A Menu @ Sungai Petani, Kedah

Do you ever come across a cafe that does not have a menu (other than Japanese Omasake restaurants)? As peculiar as it sounds, there is such cafe exists in Amanjaya, Sungai Petani in Kedah. Named My Secret Cafe, the owner always maintain a secret on their options few days prior your actual dining day. All meals here are based on what is able to be procured by the owner on the day. Therefore, appointments are highly recommended and walk-ins are discouraged, unless you are regulars. 

Few hours prior my appointment time, the chef cum owner texted me about their menu of today - angel hairs pasta, roasted chicken, grilled milkfish and pork lard rice. And we actually ordered all of the dishes. 

Well, the Grilled Milkfish (RM 78) was the most expensive item on the menu. It has a mild taste, firm and meaty texture, then lightly seasoned with sambal. Overall taste is okay, but certain part of the fish was a tad dry to enjoy, perhaps due to over-grilled. The portion of fish come in contact with sambal was good though, as the sambal contributes a nice tanginess to the overall sensation, elevating the overall taste.

The other protein - roasted chicken (RM 26.90) was good. I like the light marinade and the tender texture of the chicken. Furthermore, the sauce accompanying the chicken makes a good choice to eat along with rice.

I was perplexed of the Angel Hair Pasta (RM 16.90) though to the extent checking with the chef what is this type of pasta, and he told me it was his own creation. It is light, akin a lighter version of aglio olio but without the presence of scent of garlics nor chili flakes. The overall taste is okay though, if you are someone who enjoys a lighter version of pasta.

Pork Lard Rice (RM 13.90 - portion of 2) never ceased to amaze. The pork lard deserves all the credits for the good taste. 

Wines and alcohol are available here too should you prefer to have it in food pairing way. Overall, the experience was nice, and worthy explore if you are up to an culinary adventure. Of course, your experience may vary as the food available may be different. Total bill for us, including 4 drinks come to RM 187 total.
