Jaged Cafe @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang

Many cafes are located by major roads and can be seen distance away with their big signboard, but Jaged Cafe in Bukit Mertajam took a different approach. This cozy cafe is located on a second floor shoplot not facing the road, with only an not obvious staircase leading to its way. I thought the cafe has ceased operation during the first times here. Nevertheless, Jaged Cafe is definitely worth checking out. They are famed of various exotic variants of burnt cheesecakes, such as Avocado, Thai Milk Tea, Matcha or Hojitcha. At the same time, the cafe also offers a small menu featuring mainly pasta and rice.

We purposedly travel here from Penang island upon learning Jaged Cafe serves promising burnt cheesecakes. Indeed, the journey to here was worthwhile. We had an Avocado Burnt Cheesecake (RM 20) and the cake was pleasantly cheesy in a sleek way, though the avocado taste was too faint to be tasted.

Most of the patrons here would have a piece of cheesecake on their table as we observed.

Judging at the size of Jaged Cafe, we deduced most of the food here are oven baked / microwaved but the quality was alright. The Smoked Duck Aglio Olio (RM 18) we had was decent - pasta noodles are nicely cooked and lightly seasoned with chili flakes, even though it might be the exact taste of aglio olio that we were expecting. As reckoned, the smoked duck slices were those ready in packets.

Another dish we had, Salmon Cheese Baked Rice (RM 18) was decent too. Nothing out of ordinary, yet nothing was exceptional of this dish. On the other hand, the Chicken Satay (RM 10) was nicely seasoned and exhibited good minced chicken texture, though the operational mistakes rendered the satay unpleasant. It was warm on the outside and the meat was cold within, which is a common incident when using microwave.

Overall, Jaged Cafe is a worth checking out especially for their chees cakes. The main dishes are more to "sides" should you need something to fill your stomach instead of just having desserts here.
