Wantan Mee with Homemade Noodle for RM 3.50 only @伟光茶室, Jalan Kuala Kangsar

Despite being a Penangite, we have a strong affection toward Wantan Mee, which is a Cantonese influenced noodle dish. We particularly enjoy those having unique al-dente texture noodle and yielding aromatic sesame oil. Recently, we discovered a modest stall along Jalan Kuala Kangsar, Georgetown that serves their wantan mee with their homemade al-dente noodle! Apparently, this stall is somehow popular among locals residing in Georgetown and it only opens 4 days a week (Wednesday - Sunday).

The homemade noodles indeed contributed to a significant difference. Never in our lifetime we had tasted such unique noodle texture. It was al-dente and offer a slightly thicker texture than the conventional wantan mee, which we enjoyed and felt it was delectable. Boric acid smell was totally absent too.

We had a preference toward those wantan mee with a stronger scent of sesame oil, but the wantan mee here offers a stronger dark soy sauce aroma instead. The darkish colour of the noodles reflected what we said about the taste. Nevertheless, the wantan mee here is a good bargain, as it is competitively priced at RM 3.50 per bowl, which is a price that almost non-existent in 2019. Even though the portion is relatively smaller but it still come with a few pieces of roasted pork, some vegetables and dumplings.

Dumpling (6 pieces)

If you feel a bowl of wantan mee is insufficient to cater your diet, you may order a bowl of dumplings aka sui kow at RM 7.20 for 6 pieces.

Beef Noodle (only available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday)
The same stall also offers Beef Noodles (RM 6) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday while Pork Ribs Noodles only Saturday and Sunday only. We gave a try on their Beef Noodle and felt it was unique. Instead of offering a thick and rich broth, the soup here is slightly diluted which makes it suitable for early breakfast, as it induces less burden to the stomach. On top of that, the Beef Noodle also came with a generous quantity of beef slices.

Nevertheless, if you enjoy a thick type of beef broth, then perhaps this Beef Noodle would not be able to appease your appetite.

Still, RM 6 for a bowl of beef noodle here is a real bargain, which you hardly could get elsewhere.
