With a history dated back to the time perhaps during Malaysia Independence Day, Sia Boey mixed economy rice is one of the food that many senior Penangites fondly remember. Previously, they occupied a tiny stall in the now defunct Sia Boey Market, and has since moved to the current location at Jalan Magazine after Sia Boey Market closes down. However, many still flock here despite the new location with limited parking space, as the flavour still vividly registered in stomach of Penangites and the choices of dishes here are really amazing - easily up to 50 dishes!

Upon walking into the unpretentious shop, we were totally amazed with the choices of dishes offered and left in a conundrum what to pick for our lunch. Everything looked delicious here, from the curry tau pok, lobak, pork chop, petai, char siew, curry fish and many more!

We were made to understand curry tau pok was one of the signature dishes offered here. However, it tasted mediocre during our visit. Nevertheless, the char siew was amazing, lobak, vegetables and other dishes on our plate were good. I would be happy if I got all these dishes rotated for my dinner

The price here might be slightly above average but we felt it was worth the price. As depicted in our picture, 2 plates of economy rice with the selected dishes and a bowl of small pork stomach soup (which is available every Saturday only) cost us RM 20.40. There will be different soup being featured daily.

You can order one of Penang classic drink - Green Grass Water here, in case you have not come across it elsewhere. These drinks are not commonly available, and it is believed to cool your body.
