The humble stall opposite Klinik Kesihatan Jalan Perak in Jelutong is a gem that many we have unearthed recently, despite its existence has come to our knowledge years ago. Known as "Oneh Char Hor Fun" (黑呢面食), the stall serves Char Hor Fun both dried and gravy, Hokkien Char and Fried Rice. The dishes may look simple but every plate is skillfully prepared by the chef to possess a nice scent of char scent, aka wok hei. Diners can choose to sit in the coffee shop adjacent to the stall or at the open area should the weather is good.
We had a plate of gravy Char Hor Fun (forgot to request to add-on egg) and fried rice. These staple dishes are simple yet serve the role well to satiate our appetite. Personally, we enjoyed the char scent imparted by the chef to the fried rice, and presence of tiny char siew pieces and fried shallots further elevated its aroma. Pour in the nice sambal to introduce a subtle heat component makes the fried rice even more enjoyable.
This fried rice is a classic example of good use of old-day-rice, which the chef plays a good role in preparing it without heavy usage of dark soy sauce.
At the same time, the Char Hor Fun is equally good and we would not mind to return every week for it.
Each dish is priced at RM 5.50, an almost standard price for Char Hor Fun, Hokkien Char or Fried Rice nowadays.
