Cooperation Between Taiwan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Malaysia Healthcare to Battle 3 Major Cancers

Taiwan's largest medical center with 7 hospital branches, the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) is ready to expand their medical expertise and health care system to Malaysia's healthcare industries via various approaches such as: 
  • signing of a memorandum of cooperation between many Malaysian hospitals at the beginning of 2019,
  • Donation of medical and equipment and training for many Malaysian medical professionals,
  • Visiting of Penang's Parkway Pantai Medical Group to Taiwan to study about the use of medical information systems 
  • Organising of International Conference of Integrated Cancer Development on 21st September 2019 in a detailed discussion on lung, brain and liver cancer as well as experience sharing.

The recently concluded International Conference of Integrated Cancer Development was based on the "One Country, One Centre" plan under Taiwan's New Southband Policy organised by CGMH and co-organised by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) in corporation with two of Penang's outstanding medical institutions - Island Hospital and Lam Wah Ee Hospital.

It was was a huge success, where hundreds of medical professionals, academics, business owners, Taiwanese alumni and member of public congregated for a detailed discussion on various serious ailment hampering the live of many. The ten delegates from Taiwan was led by Prof. Liu Hui Ping, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, along with other distinguished medical experts:
  • Prof. Lu Sheng Nan, Vice Dean of Chiayi CGMH
  • Dr. Wang Chun Chieh, Vice Chief of Department of Proton and Radiation Therapy, CGMH, Linkou
  • Dr. Huang Eng Yen, Chief of Department of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, CGMH, Kaoshiung
These medical experts shared their thoughts and insights on the latest techniques for the treatment of three lung, brain and liver cancers, and the usage of highly advanced Proton Therapy. Dr. Saw Min Hong from Island Hospital Penang and Dr. Chan Jun Yeen from Lam Wah Ee Hospital Penang were invited too to speak about the standard treatment for lung and brain cancer in Malaysia. The exchange of idea between Taiwan and Malaysia medical experts aim to bring a greater understanding and progress to provide patients with better medical care.

Joining the conferences too are 6 companies from Taiwan to showcase their innovative medical equipment and technologies, including the Clinical Information Syste (CIS), healthcare management system from Maya International, Rightest Blood Glucose System by Bionime Corporation, smart medical care solution by Smart eCare Inc., Horus digital diagnostic set by Medimaging Integrated Solution Inc. and anti-cacer drugs by Orient EuroPharma.

During the event, CGMH also invited Malaysian patients who have sought treatment in Taiwan to share their experiences during their treatment. The organiser hopes that the stories from the survivors will inspire other who are battling this disease.

On top of that, the participants also had opportunity to consult the medical experts from Taiwan on various issues during the Q&A sections. Among the questions posed was seeking the experts to elaborate more on proton therapy and how Malaysians can seek medical treatment in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital 

The medical experts from Taiwan shared it is easy for Malaysians to seek medical treatment in CGMH. Prior arrival, fill up the client information form downloadable from CGMH website, and provide all related medical reports from the past 3 months such as lab pathology reports, X-rays, CTs, MRIs, ultrasounds and etc. Then send these documents to [email protected] or fax to +886-3-3286735. Within 2 business days, a medical coordinator will respond to you by email and pair you with corresponding medical specialists, and schedule a treatment plan if condition allows. 

The medical coordinator will help to setup appointment date, necessary travel visa preparations, airport pickup and hotel accommodations too. 

It is hope that more patient can benefit from the advance healthcare cooperation between Taiwan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Malaysia healthcare system.
