Cheang Kee 蒋记 Restaurant @ Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang

Just as we thought Cheang Kee Restaurant (蒋记) in Chulia Street is another cafe establishing by riding on the rising popularity of cafe in the town due to its industrialized and modern design, we only had ourselves to blame for making assumption. As a matter of fact, Cheang Kee is a local/Chinese style cafe, offering various local dishes such as Penang Prawn Noodle, Clam Noodle, Grouper Fish Noodle, Steamboat set and etc in a cozy setting. Well, the service crew here is very attentive during our visit, making a list of recommendations to us after we were seated promptly. However, always believe in your intuitive and order any food you prefer, though the recommendation by the crew to us was good.

Seafood hotpot (RM 39.90)
We were recommended to try their hotpot ranging from the crab hotpot (RM 99+) since the weather was chill during our visit. However, we are not a real fan of crab and decided to go for seafood hotpot (RM 39.90 - not in the menu) instead.

The seafood hotpot above was served in a mini pot that packs with a bunch of seafood, ranging from enoki mushrooms, cheese tofu, enoki mushrooms, minced meat, bursting pork balls, fish slices, pork slices, a choice of noodle/rice and etc. In terms of serving size, it should fit for 2 person with small appetite or a person with big appetite.

Generally, we thought the soup display a great depth of flavour, though at times we felt it was too salty that can be neutralized by adding some chilies to the hotpot. All the ingredients were fresh and really make the hotpot a memorable one. Always exercise cautious when enjoying the delicious the bursting pork ball though, as the filling will definitely squeeze out piping out upon biting it.

Bursting Pork Ball (RM 4.50)
We were recommended to top up bursting pork balls, which we thought was a good value of money.

BBQ Platter (RM 22.90)
At the same time, the service crew also recommended us to try BBQ Platter (RM 22.90). We agreed the skewers were nicely seasoned and have good smoky flavour, but it was a tad salty to be indulged in.
