The stilt house at the end of Tan Jetty houses a Thai restaurant that earned our admiration for some time. However, we have not tried it until recently where we explore bits of Weld Quay as a tourist. Despite the restaurant's fame, the overall food was mediocre and tasted like casual home cooked dishes instead, and the price is slightly higher than usual dishes we get in normal stir-fried restaurants.
Glass Noodle Prawn in Claypot (RM 20) was not impressive neither. It has an odd smell that we cannot tell its origin and feel like casual glass noodle that you can get in economy rice stall. The 3 prawns served in the glass noodles were not fresh too. On the other hand, the Thai Fish Cake (RM 4 per piece) were alright. Although the taste could not match those in Thai nor it was close to the authentic Thai fish cakes, the texture were ok. It is the first times we see such an enormous quantity of long beans in the Thai fish cakes too.
The only consolation for the dinner was crispy kangkung (RM 10). It was crisp, tasty and served in good quantity.
Thai Ruby Dessert (Tob Tim Krob / RM 5 per bowl) was a huge letdown also. Neither the jackfruit nor ruby has nice taste. To our surprise, when I told them I wanted to have 2 bowls of Thai Ruby Dessert and the crew gave me a surprise look, not knowing what exactly is Thai Ruby Dessert.
Overall, perhaps the taste served here did not concur with our taste buds well. If you have tried it recently, do let us know your feedback.
