Krung Thep Thai Street Food @ Lorong Selamat, Georgetown, Penang

While most of the Thai food offered in Penang is getting more and more expensive, there is still an outlet offers great Thai food with hawker price - Krung Thep Thai Street Food. Located along Lorong Selamat in Georgetown, the restaurant was immensely popular among locals as it was full-house during our previous few attempts. Fortunately, we managed to get a seat on a Saturday evening and was shocked to learn the affordable price in the menu. Moreover, some of the crews appeared to be Thai origin, further solidifying the restaurant's image as authentic Thai restaurant.

Pineapple Fried Rice Seafood (RM 8.90)

If you are coming as an individual or a couple yet wish to enjoy a more diversify Thai food, Krung Thep have got you covered. They are offering their a la carte menu in a set by just topping up RM 4.50, then you can enjoy a bowl of tomyam soup and a choice of either fishcake or pandan chicken.

Although we kind of enjoyed the hot & spicy tomyam soup (even though we preferred it to be less acid), we felt the overall satisfaction was missing. Maybe it was due to the small bowl serving, and the soup temperature was dropping gradually in the air-conditioned setting. Therefore, if you were to really enjoy the tomyam, please order the big pot instead. Meanwhile, the fishcake we tried was delicious.

The Pad Thai Seafood (RM 8.90) was impressive. It shares almost 70% similarities with the Pad Thai we had in Bangkok and the heat component was no joke. It put our mouth on fire and we had to take small pauses in between to give some resting period for our tongue.

On the other hand, the Pineapple Fried Rice Seafood (RM 8.90) was equally impressive. The cashew nuts toppings greatly enhanced the taste and elevated this simple rice dish to a gourmet to enjoy.

Thai Omelette with Cha Om (RM 10)

The Thai Omelette with Cha Om (RM 10) was delicious too, especially with its crisp edge and fluffy center. However it was greasy and best shared among a group of people to reduce the surfeit feelings.
