Those yearning to enjoy authentic Italian food can now head to Sigi's Bar & Grill at Golden Sands Resort. Starting 1st April 2019, the restaurant will be having a new a la carte menu, featuring its own style of casual Italian dining experience by the beach. The menu even gets an official endorsement from Chef Gianfranco Pirrone, who is hailed from Sicily, Italy that has wealth of experiences in crafting delicious Italian cuisine.

A full 5-course Italian dinner always starts with a starters and Sigi's has Traditional Bruschetta, Marianted Mozzas, Calamari Fritti or Antipasti for Two to choose from. We managed to sample the Antipasti for Two (RM 68), and it was a beautiful platter of buffalo mozzarella, flavourful bresaola and chorizo-accompanied with grilled marinated eggplant alongside a traditional assortment of marinated baby asparagus, olives, and artichoke hearts, with chargrilled baguette slices.
The Antipasti was a well balanced creation. As eggplant is a quick flavour absorber, grilling it renders a nice smoky flavour with a well browned texture. Grab it along with some chorizo to enhance the meaty taste or baby asparagus for some crunchy sensation. Overall, the antipasti is something light to nibble before starting the meal.
If you prefer vegetarian option, then opt for Traditional Bruschetta (RM 20) that comes with warm and toasted baguette topped with freshly chopped tomatoes, basil and a bit of garlic.

Next, there are selection of first course il primo (pasta, rice or similar). Pasta flavours range from Squid Ink Pasta and Spinach Ricotta Ravioli to meat-based options such as Anatra Affumicato and Seafood Aglio e Olio. The scientific approach applied by the chefs in Sigi's is well showcased in the perfectly cooked al-dente pasta and near-to-perfect seasoning in every plates of pasta they produced. Having said that, the pasta served here are one of the best in Penang that you could get.

The highlight of the new menu in Sigi's is the Griglia (grill). Diners are given a multitude of scrumptious options for grilled Surf and Turf, such as Tiger King Prawns, Norwegian Salmon, Barramundi, Beef Ribeye and Lamb Rack. Then you may pair the proteins with chef's homemade sauces such as Mama's secret chunky tomato basil, mushroom, pepper, lemon butter, Hollandaise or Béarnaise, along with choice of carbs and vitamins.
Other classic selections of il secondo (second course) include Petto di Polio ala Milanese, a beautifully pan fried breaded escalope of chicken breast served with crisp fries and a fresh garden salad and Cacciucco, a heartwarming seafood stew.

Casual Italian cuisine would not be complete without pizza on the menu. The chefs in Sigi's are adept in baking thin crust pizza that comes with crispy crust and heart toppings. One of the popular pizza here is The Godfather (RM 40), featuring fabulous four: beef pepperoni, chicken sausage, grilled chicken strips and ground beef, nestled between pieces of sweet onions and olives, topped with mozzarella. Other delicious pizza selections include Salmone Affumicato, Lady Valtellina, Hawaiian, Margherita Baby! and Al Pepperoni.
Those seeking dolce as sweet endings can look no further than the "There is always room for dessert' selections. An assortment of desserts ranging from sorbets to gelatos, Sigi's Panna Cotta and the new Not Your Regular Tiramisu featuring a flaky crust and homemade golden fingers are available.

For drinks, guests can select from alcoholic and non-alcoholic quenchers. Italian beverages include Aperol Spritz, Limoncello Margarita and Bellini. The beverage selection includes Zonin Prosecco DOC, an Italian sparkling wine perfectly paired with Grilled Salmon from the Griglia and an Americano to match a Chocolate Lava Gateau to end the meal on a sweet note. Non-alcoholic options include freshly squeezed juices, tea and coffee.
Sigi's Bar & Grill is located on the beachfront of Batu Feringgi, facing the straits of Malacca. It has four dining sections with an ambiance for casual dining: an air-conditioned section, a private dining room, a patio section with a view of the garden and the beach, and a semi-open deck that can set 20 persons. The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 10pm.
Every Sunday, Sigi's will feature its popular barbecue complete with grilled cuts, seafood and a whole lamb in the open fire pit by the beach.
