Newday Porridge 新園清香粥 has been long rooted in Lorong Selamat and appeared to be popular among locals. On a Sunday night, this place is thronged by locals and we were lucky to get a seat. Most people are after the comfort food Teochew porridge here, and many top up with ala carte dishes such as fishes, meat and etc. Dishes are good here and it is affordable, around RM 20 for the dishes shown in pictures below.

The shoo practices an unique system for ordering. You go to the counter and pick whatever dishes you are interested, then they will deliver it to your table but you really need to have the patient to wait. Probably their business were brisk that they have difficulty in juggling between the mass orders received.
Char Siew here is really great. It was flavourful, spicy, sebaceous yet not surfeiting, hitting every desirable components of an essential quality char siew. Moreover, it makes a perfect complement to the light Teochew porridge, rendering such a simple dish appeasing to the appetite of almost everyone.
Other dishes we tried included braised pork with preserved vegetables and radish eggs are delicious too. These are some of the dishes that come well with Teochew porridge, though there are more variety to go for still. Many would go for the ala carte fishes as per our observation.
No doubt, we are impressed with the food here and definitely will come back again should we need something light for dinner or supper.
