Medovik Coffee House is a cafe that offers Russian an Azerbaijan inspired dishes located in Bay 21, Likas. The cafe is operated by Yelena, who is born in Soviet Union and married to a local, thus authenticity can be assured to a certain degree. Thus far, Medovik Cafe is probably one of the well concealed cafe I ever encountered. It is located on the 8th floor of Bay 21 at Likas, right beside the condominium swimming pool and there is no way people would know its existence looking from outside of Bay 21.
The cafe serves a range of Russian and Azerbaijan dishes and desserts such as Oliver Salad, Mimosa Salad, Shuba, Okroshka, Borscht, Kutabs and etc in a relatively affordable price.
Some of the choices were sold off during my visit as I went there in the late evening on a Monday. Therefore, I had Azerbaijan Sabzi Plov (RM 10), a signature Azerbaijan dish that comes with buttered rice surrounded by chicken meat slices, spinach, coriander, spring onions. The dish offers a light taste with nice scent.
I was eager to try Russian or Azerbaijian dishes but all of them were sold off, and I had to settle for a Red Velvet Cake (RM 10). It is nice, moist and rich in taste, with white cream cheese in between the layer. I can take the whole slice of cake to myself even I am not a dessert person, considering the sponge is light and did not cause any surfeiting feeling.
The name Raf Coffee (RM 13.90) strike my mind upon spotting it on the menu. There is a layer of foam on top of the coffee, which I felt did not contribute significantly to the taste. Overall, just a cup of normal coffee in my opinion.
Medovik Coffee House certainly worth a visit as Russian and Azerbaijan dishes are an uncommon sight here in Malaysia.
